Pep Guardiola believes he was fired as Manchester City boss last season if he didn’t support the club’s hierarchy.
Guardiola believes most clubs fired their managers after having such disappointing results.
“I’m really pleased to be here after a bad season,” he told TNT Sports.
“If it wasn’t for a chair or athletic director like me, I would definitely have been fired because the outcome would have been really poor.
“This new season has six or seven signatures and new staff from the summer transfer window.
“Okay, football is that. Win and lose, what’s next chapter?
“The next chapter is this season. No one knows what’s going to happen. But I think we have a desire to do well.”
The Portuguese midfielder has been a sensationalist for the club since his arrival from Monaco in 2017.
However, Guardiola believes that Silva demonstrated human quality in the most harsh moments of the 2024/2025 season.
“We have an incredible captain,” he said. “Last season, in the toughest moments, in the really toughest moments, he was always the winner in every training session.
“As a person and as a manager, I will never forget that. The people we have in our locker rooms are exceptional.

“It’s going to be a journey when you wake up (easier) and that means you want to do the job, then we can try to win.”
Guardiola was spotted in one of the Oasis reunion gigs and said that if this year’s team wins the Premier League, he would tell Noel Gallagher about his show at Etihad.
“It’s going to happen,” he added. “I’m pretty sure. I’ll talk to Noel (Gallager).”
