Brighton has yet to move Carlos Valleva’s asking price.
Sevy Juster’s Lucian Agume is the latest name to link to Manchester United as the Red Devils are looking for a cheaper alternative to Carlos Valleva. United doesn’t seem to want to meet Baleba’s Brighton’s nine-figure asking price, which has already taken £200 million this summer.
Earlier this week it was revealed that Morten Fjulmand and Adam Wharton were both considered, but neither was a simple signature. Sporting Lisbon hopes that Hjulmand will be able to reunite with Ruben Amorim, but Palace may decide that he cannot afford to lose Wharton if teammates Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi also leave this month.
According to a Spanish report (via sports witness), Agume has a release clause of just under £35 million, which could be even less. Other unnamed Premier League clubs are also said to be in the mix, but it is unlikely that former suitor Arsenal will return to the French after the previous rink that landed Martin Zubimendi in July.
Agoume was a regular last season as he joined Sevilla from Inter Milan in a cut-price deal in 2024, and the team managed to escape a relegation from Laliga. He was also part of the French side, reaching the semi-finals of under 21 euros, playing in all but one of their matches, and gaining captain against Poland.
Profit and sustainability rules are unlikely to make a baleva move this summer, but inexpensive options such as Agume could be the answer. However, there is still a possibility that much will depend on sales elsewhere.

United have approved loan exits for the likes of Marcus Rushford and Toby Collier, but they are still working on permanent exits for other players. Alejandro Garnacho and Rasmus Hojlund are still among those who can leave, but United and Chelsea continue to face conflict over the former evaluation.
The goalkeeper’s position is also questionable as the link with Gianluigi donnarumma persists. The arrival of Italians may depend on Andre Onana’s sales. Inter Milan is said to be interested in bringing Cameroonians back to San Shilo.
Despite losing to Arsenal in an opening league match, United are looking at positive things after a tough ending last season. “For me, this group has a really good vibe that I don’t know about. We’re all investing in something,” forward Joshua Zilky told Club Media.
“You really know you want to make sure you haven’t done anything last season, and there’s also a good vibe off the pitch, and we feel it’s way closer than last season.
