Nuno Espirito Santo has covered his future in Nottingham Forest with concerns with comments about club owner Evangelos Marinakis. The 51-year-old position has been subject to speculation ahead of the second weekend of the Premier League season.
On Friday morning, reporter Matteo Morett argued that the forest was already evaluating potential alternatives due to the tense relationship between Espirito Santo and its ownership. The Forest Manager has publicly filed a complaint about the club’s summer transfer business prior to his recent signature.
Shortly after the report, Forest rejected the proposal for a rift between Espirito Santo and his superiors.
However, the Portuguese coach poured fuel into the fire after a significant claim that his relationship with Marinakis had deteriorated since last season.
He said: “Look, I’ve always had a very good relationship with the owner. Last season, we were very, very, very, very close, almost (talking).
“This season isn’t very good, but I always believe that dialogue and your opinions and your opinions are always valid, as my concerns are the team and season before us.
“But our relationship has changed. It’s not that close. It’s not commonplace. It’s not good. I think everyone in the club should be with us, but that’s not true.”

When asked what prompted them to change their relationship, Espirito Santo added:
“But I’m being honest with you. I can’t say it’s not the same, because it’s not the same. I don’t know the reason behind it.
“What I said last week or two ago was my concern and why was I worried? My job is to always try to predict that it’s coming before us.
“But in reality, (relationship) is not what it was before, it was, it was once a good, disrespectful relationship, but it’s based on trust and sharing opinions, and now it’s not that good.”
Espirito Santo went a step further by playing incredibly to a report that claims he is about to be fired by Forest.
“Where there is smoke, there is fire, so I know how things work,” he continued.
“But I’m here to work. I’m worried, so I understand. I’m the first person to worry. I’m worried first.”
Forest was impressive in the opening game of the Premier League season, beating Brentford 3-1. They travel to Crystal Palace on Sunday.
