Gareth Southgate has since quit his role as England boss in the aftermath of the three Lions’ Euro 2024 defeat to Spain and has since opted not to return to the dugout
Gareth Southgate admits he is not currently considering returning to management from the exit of England for more than a year. The former three Lions boss finished the role last summer shortly after the side reached the Euro 2024 final.
Southgate was provisionally replaced by Lee Carsley, and former Chelsea boss Thomas Tushell was appointed permanently. The German is currently leading England in the qualifying campaign for next summer’s World Cup.
In the meantime, Southgate has not yet returned to management, both in the club and international aspects. And he admits he enjoys being away from the crucible of top-level coaching now.
Southate spoke to The Sun at the PFA Awards, saying, “I enjoy my life. I enjoy a different pace in life. I’m busy.”

“I have some business interests. I help young coaches with mentoring. I do a lot of work on the situation around young men. I have problems for the young people in our country.
Asked where his future could lie, Southgate said, “I don’t know. That’s not something I’m actively looking for at this point. But when I left Middlesbrough 15 years ago, I wasn’t looking, so something came and I ended up finishing.”
Southgate led three lions, arguably the most successful period in their history. England reached consecutive Eurofinals under his watch, losing to both Italy and Spain, respectively.

Southgate also praised his run to the World Cup semi-finals during his 2018 tournament debut. His successor, Tuschel, praised the work he did in the role, but Germany was critical of other aspects.
The Germans were asked what England is missing under the South Gate and said, “Identity, clarity, rhythm, repetition of patterns, player freedom, player expression, hunger.
“They were more afraid of dropping out of the tournament on my observations than to be excited and hunger to win.”
The UK will return to action next month during the first international break in its campaign against Andorra and Serbia in World Cup qualifiers. The three lions are currently sitting at the top of the qualifying group and have won three from many games.
