Wayne Rooney bumped into Tom Brady’s “unfair” comments about his work ethic in a fateful spell with the city of Birmingham. The Manchester United icon spent a short time on the Championship side during the 2023/24 season.
However, his spell lasted only a tragic 15 games before he was fired by the club’s American owner. But before Rooney was abandoned, he was a topic of particularly poignant commentary, especially from owner Brady.
When I talked about Amazon Prime Documentary Brady & The Blues: Birmingham City, an NFL icon was filmed and told business manager Ben Rawitz.
In his reply, Rawitz said: And now, Rooney has responded to Brady’s comment for the first time.
Speaking on Wayne Rooney’s show, he said: “I think it was a very unfair comment. When I went to Birmingham, they were really confused, and so the fact that the players weren’t really the players who could move the club forward.

“We knew that. I think Tom was the day before a slightly lighter game anyway.
“But what he understands is that he is hardworking, so we know that he’s really disappointed with the comments because football isn’t the NFL – the NFL works for three months a year, so players need rest too.
“Listen, I have a great respect for Tom Brady. He’s one of the greatest, if not the greatest athlete of all time, and it looks like Birmingham is getting it now.
“What they did was when I was there, I had Tony Mowbley, Gary Lowet, who both you and I struggled with, so I think they got the players they needed to leave…
Since Rooney’s departure, Birmingham has been struggling with relegation to League One, only bounced back in his first attempt under current boss Chris Davis. However, Rooney’s management career has uttered after another looting by Plymouth Argyle after just 25 games, and has yet to return to the dugout since.
