Jamie Carrager has been predicting the Premier League title race this season, and after a busy transfer window, there are some concerns for Arne Slot Liverpool team
Liverpool strengthened their team this summer, but they still have two players short and will face tougher challenges in the Premier League this season. That’s the opinion of Jamie Carrager, who warned the defending champion.
Arne Slot’s team began defending their title with a thrilling but unconvincing 4-2 win over Bournemouth at Anfield on Friday night. There was a promising performance from new striker Hugo Ekitike, but the defense was vulnerable and two slower targets were needed to secure points.
The Reds have spent more than £300 million on players in the summer transfer window, with big sales being overseen in the slots. They added Ekitike, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, and more, but Carragher discovered some worrying signs.
When asked at Sky Sports which side is best to challenge Liverpool for a title, Carragher replied.

“He just can’t win. I don’t think he went for two years without winning a league title. He’s such a special manager.
“Is this urban force also good enough to win the league right now?” The team he had last season couldn’t find anything to fix it, so we’d always hoped he would do it, so perhaps it would just have the edge for Arsenal. ”
He added: “There’s no doubt that the (Liverpool) team is much stronger than last season. We found out that the teams that our manager chose were completely lacking confidence in certain players.
“But I think Liverpool will be better, so I imagine a much tighter title (racing) this season, and I think they’ll score more points than they got as they fell towards the end, but Manchester City and Arsenal will also be much stronger.
“These two have been the two who have fought it in Premier League titles over the past few seasons. They made the most of it last season, but I hope they’ll be much stronger.”
Asked about the players’ massive sales, Carragher said: “That’s a concern and Liverpool haven’t seen themselves in the preseason. It may sound strange, but Liverpool still needs more players for those out.
What you say! Will Liverpool be able to defend their Premier League title? Please comment below.
“We lost three people and brought one in because of the amount of forwards last season. So we need at least one forward and one defender. This is a scary team that is trying to attack the Premier League and the Champions League.”
Liverpool is in negotiations to sign Crystal Palace centre back Mark Guech and can return to test Newcastle’s resolve against Alexander Isaac. The Reds saw the £110 million and £10 million add-on bids that were rejected earlier this month, but Isak refused to play for the Magpie in the hopes of enforcing a transfer.
