The Chelsea player agreed to donate some of the prize money from the Club World Cup victory to Dio Gojota’s family after his tragic death in the club crash.
Chelsea will use the Club World Cup prize money to make a generous donation to Dio Gojota’s family. The Bruce decided to put some of the money in honor of Jota and Andre Silva by beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final of the contest on July 13th.
Jota and his brother died tragically in a car accident in Spain in early July. The Liverpool forward is 28 years old and recently married his partner who shares three children, but Silva was only 25 at the time of his death.
Chelsea’s victory at the Club World Cup came amidst the backdrop of tragedy. Winger Pedroneto was particularly influenced, playing alongside Portugal with the wolf Jota. He dedicated his victory over PSG to Jota, and Chelsea now makes the incredible decision to donate money to the family.
Athletic reports that the decision has been made between the club and the player to donate a portion of the prize money to Jota’s family. Chelsea won around £84 million for winning the competition, and a £11.4 million fund was distributed equally between the players featured in the tournament, giving each player around £368,000.

The club and players have determined that equal payments will also be made to Jota’s family. Jota and Silva were placed to rest in Gondomar near Porto, Portugal on July 5th, with many well-known figures from the world of soccer attending the funeral.
Before the final against PSG, Neto said: “The last few days have been really difficult, and this final just wants to leave a message for him and his brother.
“But I would like to dedicate this final to him and his family and show my support for them in these difficult times.”
Liverpool has retired from Jota’s 20 shirt and announced that a permanent commemorative sculpture will be created at Anfield. Arne Slot players will feature a “Forever 20” emblem on their 2025/26 season shirt.
The club says benefits from the “Diogo J 20” shirt will be sent to the club’s charity, the LFC Foundation. Liverpool recorded Crystal Palace Chairman Ian Rush, Ian Rush, who is chairman of Crystal Palace, and laid a lease at the Liverpool end at Wembley on Sunday ahead of Community Shield.
Liverpool fans paid tribute to Jota with a reverberation of “You’ll never walk alone” before kickoff.
