Liverpool and other Premier League clubs paid tribute to Dio Gojota in the summer after the Reds star tragically died in a car accident a few days after they got married
Anfield paid emotional tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva ahead of Liverpool’s first match in the Premier League season against Bournemouth.
The tragic star’s wife and children were welcomed at Merseyside as the Reds played their first league game since the forward’s tragic death. Jota, along with his siblings, died in a car accident a few days after Starr married long-term partner Root Kaldoso.
Fans have spread the TIFO in honor of both men, but some of the KOPs say, “Rute, Dinis, Duate, Matalda – Anfield will always be your home. You will never walk alone.”
Premier League champion Liverpool already has a lot of respect in the preseason. Fans paid tribute to Wembley’s Community Shield in 20 minutes in honor of Jota’s team number.

“Ahead of tonight’s first match of the new Premier League season, there will be a fan-driven homage to Diogo and his brother Andre, with a special mosaic displayed on the KOP and the Surkenny Dal Greish Stand.” “This will be revealed by the fans during a period of silence, prior to kickoff with AFC Bournemouth.
“Players will display their own tributes using specially made “Eternal 20” emblems printed on shirts and stadium jackets. Liverpool announced in July that Jota’s No. 20 shirt would be retiring from the club.
“As a club, when they deal with this most tragic situation, it’s important to show that they always have our love and support. We’re always there for them.”
The world of football has been in mourning ever since Jota and Silva passed away, and respect comes from afar. Liverpool’s Premier League rival confirmed that Chelsea will donate from Club World Cup prize money to the footballer’s family as they begin the season, and Bournemouth boss Andeni Iraora also confirmed the situation.
“It’s a big test for us and we’ll be emotional at first with the passing of Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva,” he said at a pre-match press conference. “But we focus on our work, create some opportunities, keep faith, give them a hard game. Let’s go there and give them surprises.”
A momentary silence will be held on every Premier League property this weekend. Players across the country will wear black armbands to commemorate Jota and Silva.
Liverpool entered a new season with a bolstered team, spending more than £200 million to bring the likes of Florian Wiltz, Hugo Echicicke and former Bournemouth defender Milos Karques to Anfield. They confirmed another new signature on Friday, and Giovanni Leoni’s arrival from Palma was announced hours before kickoff at Anfield
Opponent Bournemouth has a new look backline where Dean Huizen and Ilya Zabarini left with Kerkez. They confirmed the arrival of centre-back Baford Deerkite two days before the Liverpool match, making the former Lillestar the second most expensive signature in history.
