Wrexham is set to break Ipswich’s Nathan Broadhead’s transfer record with a £10 million move.
Wrexham was given earlier to break their transfer records by completing a £10 million transaction for Nathan Broadhead. The Red Dragons have been following the Ipswich Town Winger signature for the past few weeks.
The 27-year-old Wales International was understood to be keen to return to the Welsh side. There, he began his career at the club’s Youth Academy. It was previously reported that the deal had been agreed, but the move was postponed by Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna due to a string of injuries and interest in transfers to other offensive players. That changed when the tractor boys completed a loan signing for Tuba Acpon from Ajax on Sunday.
Wrexham, the newest boys in the Championship, was given a green light to complete the purchase after raising the offer to £10 million. The player is believed to be heading to his North Wales homeland for medical care.

Once completed, Broadhead will be Wrexham Manager Phil Parkinson’s ninth summer signature after receiving strong support from club Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McEl Henney. It’s the third time Wrexham has broken forward records this summer after first forking £2.1 million from Empoli’s left-back Liberato Cacace.
The acquisition of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien surpassed that figure after costing £5 million. The arrival of Broadhead will again eclipse it in what is considered a statement of intent in many quarters.
However, some Wrexham fans have not questioned and are questioning the big spending from owners when the club does not yet have a permanent training ground.
Written in X, one supporter states: “I don’t want to be negative here, but it’s been over four years since I took over. We haven’t bought the land for the training ground yet. These signatures are incredible, but long-term success will be slower if we don’t have our own base.”
A second fan posted: “I’m controversial here, but that’s ridiculous. Yes, he’s a Welsh and a former youth player, but that can’t justify that price.
The third was added: “Not my money or anything like that, but £10 million in Broadhead? Meanwhile, another said: “I don’t know if we’re happy to sign £10 million.”

Broadhead joined Ipswich from Everton in January 2023 for £1.5 million. He played a key role in consecutive promotions for the Tractor Boys from League One and Championship.
Broadhead scored 23 goals in Ipswich’s 83 appearances, but recently entered the final year of his contract. He missed the club’s Carabao Cup clash at Bromley on Tuesday after reporting illness on game day.
His move to Wrexham comes as he prepares to face West Brom in his first league home game of the season on Saturday. The Parkinsons team lost the opening game at Southampton 2-1 after moving ahead in most games and then collapsed late.
