Liverpool is set to land Palma defender Giovan Nileoni for the first £26 million. The Reds have fully agreed with the Serie A side for the centre-back.

Leoni, 18, is ready to jerk into the UK to complete medical care after final conditions have been agreed in the next 24 hours. Liverpool beat Inter Milan and AC Milan to his signature, and Manchester United and Newcastle were also enthusiastic.

Palma was eager to see players lending out with them this season, but the Reds are ready to put him on their first team. Leoni will be part of the team alongside Virgil van Dik, Ibrahima Connate and Joe Gomez, who are back in training this week.

Liverpool is also looking to sign Crystal Palace defender Mark Guech and continues to trade around £35 million with Premier League counterparts. Leoni replaces Jarrel Kuanza, who was sold to Bayer Leverkusen for £30 million in front of the window.

Leoni entered Parma’s starting lineup late last season, making 17 appearances. He can play in the middle of back three or in the two right sides.

Liverpool sports director Richard Hughes is in consultation with Palma CEO Federico Sherbini, but the main parts of the deal have been agreed. Liverpool missed the young centre-back in the final few windows after unsuccessful attempts to land Levi Colwill, Renee Yoro and Dean Huysen.

Colwill stayed with Chelsea, Yolo preferred Manchester United when he left Lille, and Huizen chose Real Madrid this summer. The deal does not differ from the consultations to continue this week in Liverpool’s pursuit of Guech.

Guehi, 25, has only one year left on his contract at Selhurst Park and wants to move to Anfield. Liverpool wants to trade this summer, but in 12 months he can take him for free.

Crystal Palace's Mark Guech lifts the FA Community Shield after the team's victory following the 2025 FA Community Shield match between Crystal Palace and Liverpool at Wembley Stadium on August 10, 2025 in London, England.

Palace President Steve Parish doesn’t want Guehi to go for free, but he wants him to go for more than £40 million to continue the negotiations. The Palace declined a £70 million bid from Newcastle in January, winning the FA Cup.

They were demoted to the conference league, but they are still ready for a big season and would like to order as high a rate as possible, as they would still like to trade Guehi if he departs.
