Wesley Fofana questioned Chelsea’s future. The 24-year-old defender, who joined the Blues in Leicester City for £700 million in August 2022, has found himself facing uncertain times at Stamford Bridge after his recent social media activity.
On Wednesday morning, Fofana wiped all Chelsea-related content from her Instagram account. France International has disabled comments on his latest only post since October 2024 and continues to upload from his stint at King Power Stadium.

Fofana has been suffering from fitness issues since her arrival in West London. Three years later, he played 34 times for Chelsea. His recent outing came in March 2025 after a prolonged absence due to hamstring issues.
When Fofana maintained his muscle damage late last year, Enzo Maresca suggested he might be on the sidelines for the rest of the campaign. The Bruce manager said: “Unfortunately, he can go out in the season.
“We don’t know exactly the whole season, but certainly he could go out for some of it. Every time you ask me about Wes, I told you many times I’m in love with Wes.

“When WES was injured in Benoit, we did the exact same thing.
“It’s true, WES is a huge loss. I don’t think I can compare this type of injury to other people. It’s a muscle and I had no muscle issues before.
A few days later, Fofana contradicted Maresca on social media, suggesting on social media that it could come much faster than both medical staff and Maresca showed.
Speaking to the journalist before he met the FA Cup with Morecambe, the Chelsea manager rejected the Frenchman’s claim. Maresca said: “We speak the same language in terms of communicating between each other in English and French.
“I spoke with WES – the 12-16 weeks mentioned by the club, and WES thinks he can recover faster than that. WES will recover (faster) and become available tomorrow, but we’re going to see it.
“It’s not a problem. I told her what the medical staff said to me, it was about 12 and 16 weeks, and Wes thinks he’s going to recover faster than that.

Instead of ignoring expert guidance and gradually building match fitness, he returned to the pitch prematurely. In March 2025, the defender was featured at right back in a 1-0 victory over Leicester and a 1-0 loss to Arsenal, causing another injury to prolong his time at the treatment table.
As part of his team’s reintegration and recovery program, Fofana was on the bench for Chelsea’s deadlock replacement against Crystal Palace over the weekend. Speaking to a journalist at Stamford Bridge, Maresca said: “Wes was on the bench.
“But (he) was just on the bench to be with us and planned to not get him for minutes.
With Levi Colwill and Tosin Adarabioyo unavailable, Josh Acheampong was given the opportunity to impress. The 19-year-old defender certainly caught his eye and kept Jean-Philippe Mateta at bay.
After the game, the Chelsea manager explained why the Faufana and Benois Badian seals lack the quality to operate in the mid-half position within the backline. Maresca said:
“We’ve said many times that if we can build the right way, we can create opportunities and attack the right way. Levi is a big part of our accumulation and he’s out now.
“We’re trying to find a solution internally, but the club knows exactly what I’m thinking and we’re seeing what happens. I think we need a central defender, but we’re looking for a solution internally. But like I said, the club knows what I think.”
When asked if Fofana or Badiashile could step into the role of Colwill, Maresca replied.
“Benoit played in the middle and in the first half of the conference league final, we lost 1-0. Then we changed with Levi and won 3-1.
Fofana doesn’t seem to be too kind to Maresca’s harsh verdict…
