Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim changed his pre-match routine ahead of the Red Devils’ Premier League opening match against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday
Reuben Amorim switched pre-match preparations for Manchester United ahead of the first match of the new season on Sunday. United’s host Arsenal is Old Trafford and is keen to stand up last season’s worst Premier League campaign and get off to a good start.
And to ensure that his players were as good as possible for the game, Amorim discarded something introduced by his predecessor, Eric Ten Hag. The Dutch hoped the players would be in Old Trafford four hours before kickoff, and travelled from their home to the ground to share pre-match meals.
However, Amorim changed his routine, and players began to meet and eat at Carrington before traveling together to Old Trafford. Explaining the move, Amorim told MUTV:
“And I feel we can be here at these facilities (in Carrington) and are preparing for the game away from Old Trafford, and when we arrive at Old Trafford, we have to feel the fans and then go straight to the game without killing the momentum of our connection with the fans.
“We know that a lot of people are waiting for us, staying with the players and waiting to sign the sign, we try to do the same.

“So it’s going to be the same experience for the fans. But for us, it’s going to be better because we can get closer to the momentum of the game, with the fans and spend less time there.”
Amorim’s decision is certain that CEO Omar Bellada will “have a positive impact on the team’s performance” after United revamped Carrington by £50 million over the summer.
During the announcement, Bellada said: “There is no doubt that it will have a positive impact on our team’s performance. This project represents a clear step towards unifying all parts of the club, centering on a shared soccer vision.
“By gathering staff and players in one integrated environment, we create a culture of collaboration and high performance.”
United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe added: “Following last year’s facility review, we have quickly decided to invest significantly in creating a world-class performance environment for our staff and players to reflect Manchester United’s ambitions and vision.
“We are delighted with the outcome and are confident that the new facility will play a key role in building a culture of victory at the club.”
