Liverpool paid tribute to the late Diogojota as they launched their Premier League title defense against Bournemouth and Mohamed Sarah.

Liverpool star Mora Sara was in tears after Liverpool won Bournemouth as home fans paid tribute to Diogo Jota. After his tragic death in a car accident in July, Jota was paid a tribute before, during and after the match.

Sarah scored Liverpool’s fourth goal, taking on 4-2 at Anfield against Bournemouth’s Comeabuk. Fans around the stadium recited Jota’s name after the final whistle blew, and Sarah was visibly emotional as she approached her supporters.

“I just saw an emotional pour from Mo Salah,” Sky Sports Pundit Gary Neville said. “I think that will be the case for Liverpool players, staff and fans all season.

“You just hit them in the game, the end of the game, after the victory, at the moment of defeat. They realize that they’re not with their teammates, their colleagues, the people they loved, they’re not with them anymore.

After a while, Sarah had scored on a goal that had stopped Liverpool’s victory. However, victory was not always guaranteed in the Premier League champions.

Liverpool rose 1-0 on the break, with Hugo Ekitique scoring in his Premier League debut, and Cody Gakupo doubled the lead early in the second half. However, the lead didn’t last long, but Antoine Semeño scored twice for the visitors.

The victory seemed to avoid victory, but Super Subfedelico Chiesa only volleyed from around the penalty spot. The goal was his first in Italian in the Premier League, and a third of his goals for Liverpool since joining from Juventus.

“I said in the commentary that it was a strange decision. I’ll kick out (Florian) Wirtz and take the Cheesa,” commentator Jamie Carrager said. “But it’s a magical moment for him. A last minute winner in front of KOP. He thought it was a mistaken hit, but he actually got really good contact about it.

Former Liverpool defender Stephen Warnock had covered the BBC Radio 5 Live game, but he praised Salah’s clincher. “I see him frequently coming out of the right side on my left foot, but this time from the other side,” he said. “He backs out the defender into the penalty area, cuts inside his right foot inside and passes through the pass to another corner. It’s a very nice finish.”
