Louis Diaz left Liverpool and joined Bayern Munich on a £65.5 million transfer contract last month.
Luis Diaz paid tribute to former Liverpool teammate Diogo Jota as he enjoyed Bayern Munich’s dream debut. Diaz, 28, scored in a 2-1 victory over Bayern’s Stuttgart in the German Super Cup, lifting his first trophy with his new club.
The Columbian winger left Liverpool in July. This is because the Bundesliga champions hit £65.5 million for his services. The move comes weeks after Jota and his younger brother Andre Silva were tragically killed in a car accident.
In a statement confirming his departure, Diaz made a special mention to Jota. Jota performed at Anfield in three and a half years. The 28-year-old had appeared in three preseason friendlys for Bayern, but earned his first competitive action status on Saturday.
Diaz, selected to start a match in Stuttgart by Vincent Company, saw his new teammate Harry Kane break the deadlock after 18 minutes. Bayern couldn’t build in their favour in the first half, and as Manuel Neuer repeated years, they had to work hard to maintain Stuttgart and Bay in the second period.
Company maintained his faith in Diaz and scored a goal in the 77th minute. It was an unusual header for Columbia International, reaching the end of the cross from Serge Gunaburi.

Diaz ran to celebrate the goal near the corner flag and sat down to pay tribute to Jota. The former Liverpool star played on the gaming console, one of Jota’s favorite entertainment and one of his trademark goal celebrations.
Stuttgart pulled back the goal in a halt three minutes through Jamie Roeling, but it was too late for Bayern to lift the trophy for the first time since 2022. “That was how we wanted to start the season, and we won the feeling and the title,” Kane said after the game.
“It was a short summer break, but we’ve worked very hard. But the way we played today was good. It would be nice if we had scored another goal or two, but we worked well on the ball and did our job as a team.”

Kompany added: It’s not easy in Stuttgart, but I came here and delivered.
“Obviously we’d like the long preseason season, but moans don’t help. We talked about it. We had the opportunity to start with the title. That’s our goal and we achieved it. Today was a good first step.”
