Wrexham has reportedly secured an astonishing deal for Manchester City defender Callum Doyle, with summer spending gathering and pace. The Welsh outfit has been throwing money this summer after winning promotion to the championship.
Wrexham has already spent about £20 million during the transfer period, but has shattered the club’s record fees with a £7.5 million move from Ipswich’s Nathan Broadhead. But they don’t seem to be complete yet.
Athletic reports that the championship outfit is currently on the brink of a £8 million dip for Man City prospect Callum Doyle.
The Rangers and Sheffield United are also interested, but it appears they have won the battle for his signature.
Doyle, 21, came through the city youth system that spent the entire development at the club. Still, he manages only two of the first team outings on the side. However, his loan spells have proven more fruitful.
He helped promote Sunderland in 2022, then reached the final campaign of the Championship playoffs with Coventry.
The defender then moved to Leicester, claiming the championship title and lending the previous season to Norwich City.
Over the summer he confessed he was ready for a fresh challenge.
“I think (permanent movement) is my next goal,” Doyle told the Pink UN. “It’s now my fourth loan and I’m all over the country.
“There’s nothing bad about this club. I love it. I love playing here and on Carrow Road. The fans are amazing.
In other news, Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has expressed his desire to bring additional athletes to the racecourse before the deadline next month. He said: “We look all over the place, and we probably need a few more players.
“It’s ongoing. The moment we’re looking to prepare the game and improve our team, it’s obviously busy for all our managers and clubs. The young people we’ve brought with us at this point are really good.
Wrexham was defeated in the first two championship matches. They were slightly beaten by Southampton at the dying moment before succumbing to Norwich City.
Their quest for their maiden victory this weekend continues this weekend as they plague Sheffield on Wednesday.
