Manchester United are about to kick off the 2025-26 Premier League season by bringing what was known last season in “Theatre of Nightmare” back to the Theatre of Dreams – what Reuben Amorim believes is the term
Reuben Amorim believes that the route back to Manchester United’s top will have to be paved with Old Trafford’s victory. Dream Theater became the nightmare theater last season, with United losing nine of their 19 home games in the Premier League, conceding 28 goals and scoring just 23.
Amorim knows that if his team tries again at the top of the table, the stadium must be transformed into a fortress – and he reveals that the club’s £220 million spending was driven by forgerying an attack made up of Benjamin Sesco, Mateus Kunha and Brian Mbeumo, bringing the desire to return to Old Trafford.
Amorim said: “We have to make it a fun place for (Old Trafford) fans. That’s really important. We start with one game with Arsenal, a very good team. I think everyone in this room will win. But we’re there to change things on Sunday.
“It’s not mental, but it’s not just the players, it’s also the fans. In the (friendly) game with Fiorentina, you could feel it. The fans were a little nervous. This feeling can’t change it in a day or in one game.
“If you want to win things and be a very strong team, you need to win the game, especially at home.”

United endured the worst top flight season in 51 years, and after following the Eric 10 hug in November, Amorim couldn’t stop the slide. Sesko was signed by RB Leipzig for £73.6 million. The arrival of 22-year-old Slovakian could mark Inter Milan the departure of the £72 million flop Rasmus Hojlund.
Mbeumo arrived from Brentford in a £71 million package after United began the summer with a £62.5 million buyout clause on wolves. Amorim believes that his great trio can remind him of magic to win the game, even when his team is second best.
He states: “We know we’ll be struggling for a while as it’s a game against Arsenal, but we feel that we’re more prepared and more players can help us change the momentum of the game.
“It gives you confidence. We have more options. If things aren’t working well, we can change. It gives me more confidence in all games.
“Cunha can do something by catching the ball. Brian can be there to run once and score a goal. These kinds of things help us a lot.”
Amorim feels he has been able to put fingerprints on the United team, with the destructive influences of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Antony, Alejandro Garnacho and others being forced out of the club or expelled from the photographs of the first lineage. However, he insists that his expectations will not change.
He added: “I feel the same way because the team was my responsibility. I’m always putting pressure on playing. It’s impossible to be here, and not feeling pressured every day. I’m sure I can do that.
“We’re ready for the season, we’ve prepared well in the preseason. Starting now, we’ll struggle, but whatever we see on Sunday will improve during the season.
“We’re ready to beat Arsenal – that’s the only thing that matters.”
