Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe rubbed the claim that Alexander Isaac had notified him two weeks before the campaign conclusion that he wanted to leave the club. Reports from the athletic suggest that Isak’s departure plan was general knowledge behind the scenes 12 months ago.

Howe was quized on whether he was concerned that Isaac might not be due to Champions League adventures on the day he secured qualifying for Newcastle in May despite suffering a 1-0 reverse against Everton.

Hau said: “Believe me, when that last whi went, it was the farthest from my heart.

“After a really good run in December, we were in it. We weren’t thinking about the individual at the moment, so we can’t really give an answer about it.”

Hau’s remarks show that he is totally sincere in Isaac’s situation and in advance notice that the forward wants to depart.

Isak himself declared during a press conference in March that he plans to hold discussions with the club about fresh terms.

Hau was then questioned whether he believed that Champions League eligibility had helped Liverpool to ensure that ISAK would leave and not reject the transfer speculation before submitting an offer for Swedish International.

Hau replied: “It wasn’t dependent on Alex. My idea was not just one player.

“Certification was generally important to the team, and there are great players who want to play and compete in the best competitions.

“It certainly felt that it would help us maintain the majority of the team, and I am sure we have a coveted player from other clubs.

“We need to maintain the club’s momentum with performance and results for long-term success.”
