Chelsea 0-0 Crystal Palace: Ebebekieze’s first half goal was banned after VAR intervention when the Eagles held the hosts on the first day of the Premier League season
Chelsea led the season to a slow start as Crystal Palace held the blues in a draw at Stamford Bridge. The Eagles are campaigning in a positive way by scoring points against potential title contenders just a week after beating Liverpool on Community Shield.
And the Eagles may feel they could have made more money in West London. Eberechi Eze’s Rocket Free-Kick appeared to provide the palace with an early lead for Var’s intervention.
By keeping Moises Caiceto out of the way, it was determined that Marc Guehi had come too close to the Chelsea wall. After watching the replay, Darren England took action and the score remained goellless.
Eze still played the lead role as Oliver Glasner’s team provided a threat to himself while defending against the Club World Cup champions. Enzo Maresca’s team looked strong, but lacked Polish as they struggled to turn their possessions into meaningful opportunities.
They found one in the stop time, but the substitute Andrei Santos was unable to maintain his composure when given time in the palace box. The Brazilians were unable to separate the sides and burned the ball over the bar.
Mirror Football looks at the points of the story that arise from the game.

Eberechi eze
The attackers were afternoon talk, even before kickoff. There were rumours that the palace star could miss the game ahead of his move to Tottenham, but the Eagles chose to take advantage of one of the most talented stars.
And England International showed exactly why he was wanted. He put Reese James in a difficult situation again and again, but that was not permitted, Crystal Palace ace showed his quality from the dead ball.
There is little doubt that Eze has Champions League quality. At 27, he probably reached the peak of his strength and found the final opportunity to achieve his transition to the top. While the Spurs are showing whether they represent something more suspicious for some, Eze showed professionalism and quality that is not always present in the top flights of his outing against Chelsea.
Probably the best player on the pitch.
var does that job
Var went back to work in eliminating Eberechi Eze’s free kick. It emphasizes laws that football fans don’t know about. More frustration emerged when everyone began to lament that Eze’s efforts to cancel Marc Guehi’s physicality with Moise Caiceco.
Instead, the problem was Guegi’s proximity to the Chelsea wall. There was little appeal or complaints on the pitch after the ball hit the net, but there was a few more appeals from the stands as I began to understand why the free kick was awarded.
“I sometimes ask in football where I ask if something is right or wrong,” said Sky Sports’ Chris Sutton. “And it just looks strong, strong and tough.”
It is difficult to oppose, and I feel that the application of this law may have been the most inconsistent in recent years given the surprise of many people at its existence.
Does Chelsea need a defender?
With Levi Colwill already set to miss the majority of the season after undergoing ACL surgery, Enzo Maresca revealed that he wanted a new defender despite noting that the club relied on internal solutions. On the first day, it was expected to be Toshin Adaribioyo.
The former Fulham man picked up the injury to leave Trevo Charova, who needs a new partner. It provided 19-year-old star Josh Achairpon with an opportunity at the heart of his defense.
“I’m sure he’s ready,” Maresca said. “We’ve already played some games with Josh in the Premier League last season, so I think he’s ready. He’s a talented footballer and I’m sure he’ll be able to help this club in the future.”
The players of the Sunday show certainly looked ready. Much of his experience came as a fullback, but Atiampon even looked at his home with the difficult prospect of facing Jean Philippe Mateta.
The teenage outing would have done little to shake up the Chelsea sports director who needs to work with Maresca on the issue.
Estebao Willian’s Premier League debut
The 18-year-old Brazilian finally arrived at Stamford Bridge after a deal was agreed over a year ago. The Winger talks about South America’s most talked about talent, with Chelsea paying the first £209 million fee and signing the deal.
The former Palmeiras stars quickly introduced the forced palace at the rear, moving Chelsea into their territory. Estebao’s direct running showed the fearlessness you expect.
The youngster picked up a dashing Premier League yellow card to prevent Crystal Palace’s counter attack, but the recklessness could rise to his enthusiasm.
There are so many talents out there, and it would be difficult to get the right balance between getting it nourished and unleashing it. But Estebao appears to be ready to make an impact.
Chelsea title qualifications?
Chelsea’s Summer Club World Cup victory will certainly add some weight to the club’s ambitions and how it will be seen in the outside world. The West London side is leaning for some to win the title.
There was an exciting element on Sunday, but it was enough to ease expectations, but we also need to remember the truncated preseason on the side.
Despite many possessions, many of the matches didn’t have much clear chances. Chelsea replenished the forward line with Joan Pedro and Liam Dellup over the summer, but the former couldn’t make a lasting impression after the match began.
It’s the region that Chelsea hopes to improve if they’re among the team’s challenging challenges at the end of the season. However, their opponents should not be overlooked.
Oliver Glasner is unhappy about the inertness of the side transfer, but remains in strong attire with a talented spine. This season won’t be a pushover.
