Benjamin Sesco has decided to snub Newcastle and join Manchester United on a £74m transfer, despite Reuben Amorim’s side not offering European football
Manchester United sent a subtle message to Newcastle after beating them over the signing of Benjamin Sesco. United have announced Sesko’s signature from RB Leipzig for an additional £7.6 million with a rate of £66.4 million and a potential add-on on Saturday.
He was announced at Old Trafford ahead of his final preseason friendliness against Fiorentina after signing a five-year contract. The 22-year-old is the third major addition to Ruben Amorim’s forward line after signing Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
Sesco previously linked to Arsenal, but it becomes a straight shootout between United and Newcastle. Slovenia International has revealed this season that United prefers Old Trafford to St James Park despite the lack of European football.
His decision took yet another blow to Newcastle, which has been continuously stumped in the transfer market this summer. He signed Anthony Elanga for £55 million from Nottingham Forest, but missed Sesco and Mbeumo United, Hugo Ekitique, Liverpool, Liam Dellup and Joao Pedro.

United appeared to want to rub their noses in a provocative post to X on Saturday. “It was United only,” they wrote along with two photos of football director Jason Wilcox and Sesco. The comments below were full of memes enjoying Newcastle. Newcastle could lose Alexander Isaac to Liverpool to close out a disastrous summer.
Magpies were unable to convince them to join Sesco after finishing fifth in the Champions League this season. He leads the line on the side, which finished 15th last season, but he revealed why he made the call.
“Manchester United history is clearly very special, but what really excites me is the future,” he said. “When we discussed the project, it was clear that everything was in place for this team to continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies right away.
“From the moment I arrived I could feel the positive energy and family environment the club created, which is clearly the perfect place to reach my maximum level and fulfill all my ambitions.
“I can’t wait to learn from Reuben and start connecting with my teammates and achieve the success that we can all be with.”
Amorim told MUTV: “He has the necessary traits. Ben is a player who has all the information we have and we need to stop the guy from working. That’s not the opposite! That’s important too.
“I think he has a lot of potential because he’s really young, he’s good in the air, he’s good at running channels and he’s good at balls. I think he can improve a lot. Certainly, he’s going to feel at home at our club.
