Wrexham started six debutants in Southampton’s 2-1 defeat on Saturday, with Phil Parkinson targeting experienced players and asking for another major signature
Wrexham hopes to continue his ambitious summer transfer window by signing Sheffield United’s Jack Robinson. Phil Parkinson’s side has already brought many well-known new players after reaching the championship, but they still hope for more additions.
The Welsh side began their campaign in the second tier after a 2-1 defeat to Southampton on Saturday. Wrexham led the Josh Windus penalty but was surprised by two late goals from Ryan Manning and Jack Stevens after missing out on the chance to put the game in bed.
There have been some promising performances from the new face, but it’s clear that Parkinsonson still believes Wrexham is lacking in quality. Robinson is a very experienced defender and spent most of his career in the championships at QPR, Nottingham Forest, Huddersfield and Sheffield United.
The 31-year-old, who began his career with Liverpool and became the youngest player to play for the club when he debuted at the age of 16 in 2010, is keen to join Wrexham, according to Sun. The negotiations reportedly were in the advanced stages last week, but fell asleep after Blade sold fellow centre-back Anel Ahmedhodzic to Feyenord.

It remains to be seen whether United will sanction the sale of the defender, who has played 159 times for the club since joining from Forest in 2020. Robinson got off the bench and wore the captain’s armband when Bristol City hit 4-1 in Saturday’s opening championship match for the season.
Wrexham has invested heavily since he signed many proven championship performers since he achieved promotions from League One. Goalkeeper Danny Ward, defenders Ribert Kakas and Connor Cody, midfielders George Thomason and Lewis O’Brien, as well as Ryan Hardy, Kiefer Moore and Windus. Like Robinson, Ward and Cody were also featured in the book as young people in Liverpool.
They have been pushing for Ipswich’s Winger Nathan Broadhead to sign for the last few weeks, but Wales International is still not moving. Prior to his trip to St. Mary’s, Parkinson said: “I honestly don’t know anything. I wonder if there was development. He’s a player from the town of Ipswich.
Speaking more generally about transfers, the boss of Wrexham added:
“But there are some opportunities we are seeing and hopefully we can make the right call to continue to improve what we have.”
Parkinson has six debutants in the form of Ward, Cacas, Cody, O’Brien, Moore and Windus against Southampton, with Hardy coming off the bench. “Looking back, it was a very proud day for a club that plays at this level and I think there have been a lot of positive things for us,” he said.
“New young people came in and they did really well, but I thought the existing players were really good too. That will give us a big heart for the upcoming season.”
