Manchester City waltzed the path to an opening victory over the Wolves, with the goals of Ehring Haaland, Tijani Rayjunders and Rayan Cherki proved the difference and the road to an opening day victory over the Wolves. It marks the beginning of a big campaign for the city after struggling last season.
After a volatile start, Pep Guardiola’s team grew into the game and ultimately took a lead midway through the first half. The opener arrived when Haaland was discovered at the back post by Rico Lewis, and City added two seconds by new signature Tijani Reyjners.
Things got even better for the Blues in the second half, and Haaland netted for the second time in the game after destroying his lungs from the Reyjuners, a breath of fresh air in the middle of the city. Rayan Cherki laid the icing on the cake with a stylish finish late in the game.
James Trafford-7
Given Adason’s position as No. 1 goalkeeper, he probably wasn’t expecting to start the match. However, recent arrivals did not fall out of place between the sticks.
Rico Lewis-7
They provided a fun cross for the opening goal and remained a threat in the final third of the match. Given that Nottingham Forest is thought to be sniffing around the youth, it can prove Lewis’ final match at City Blue.
Reuben Diaz-8
In a successful city season, Reuben Diaz needed to shine, and he looked impressive behind the city. The Portuguese ace was sometimes criticised for his performances in the previous period, but he is certainly pleased to put the 2024/25 campaign behind him and focus entirely on the upcoming season.
John Stones-8
Another surprising name for Starting XI, as John Stones’ City’s final start has returned in February. His previous season was damaged by injuries, but Guardiola and Thomas Touchel will both cross fingers when the World Cup comes next summer.
Rayan ait -nouri -7
It was an immediate return to the wolf for Rayan Ait Nouri, and the Algerians show why the city paid a lot to take him to the club. It’s been a while since the city returned to the left, but it appears they’ve bagged some good stuff.
Nico Gonzalez-8
After a lot of work was being done for the injured Rodri, Nico Gonzalez rose to the challenge. He’s not at Rodri level (who is that?), but having a Ballon d’Or or a capable agent for the winner can prove to be a game changer for the city this season.
Tijjani reijnders -10
He marked his Premier League debut in master class. The Reijnders showed the city what was lacking in the middle of last season, and Dutch international slots have been straightened following a move from AC Milan. Only two players scored and supported in their City debut. The other? Sergio Aguero.
Bernardo Silva-7
Although it is the oldest of the mid-3 of the city, Bernardo Silva did not see out of place. He is his usual energy bunny self in the middle of the park, delivering several test crosses from pieces on the set.
Oscar Bob-8
After frustration at losing much of last season, Guardiola showed his faith to Oscar Bob by throwing Oscar Bob off off and throwing an opening match with the wolf. It paid off, Bob was just dazzling to the right of the attack, even gaining an assist for Reijnders’ target.
Erling Haaland -9
He made it precisely that he was on the team: goal scored. In fact, his two goals were probably to Elling the only meaningful contribution in Haaland’s game, but there’s so much creativity behind him that many of the goals of the season will be the first.
Jeremy Doku -6
Certainly Jeremy Doc is the quietest attacker of the city’s attackers, wrapped in a wolf backline. He hopes for a better day, especially in the few minutes of competition on the city’s forward line this season.
Alternatives:
Nico O’Reilly-6
Put yourself up after leaving the bench as Nico O’Reilly is picking up a yellow card for his troubles.
Omar Marmash-6
Although operated on the left, Omar Marmash’s only effort was a blocked free kick.
Matheus Nunes -6
I received a toxic reception when I returned to Old Stomp Ground Molyneux, but it didn’t appear to stage Mateus Nunes.
Rayan Cherki -8
In the most shocking urban alternatives, Rayan Cherki makes a gorgeous left foot effort after the tidy footwork at the edge of the box.
