Argentina International provided an emotional tribute to Jota and his brothers after writing about Liverpool’s victory in the Player Tribune on Thursday.
He states:
“He was always a very realistic and family conscious person and never tried to pretend that he wasn’t. One day he came and gave him a lifelong embrace.
“We loved to ‘take a P***’. And whether it was our Messi vs Cristiano argument or simply Trump, we’ve always found our way. It was part of the game. I always choose to remember him with a smile.
“And with that smile, I know he’s supporting us from above. If you don’t believe it, look at the moment Jeremy Fripon scores on the Community Shield. No. 20. These are signs.”
New Animal Frimon scored an extraordinary goal in the 20th minute, marking the team’s first competitive fixture since news of Jota’s catastrophic accident caused shockwaves around the world on Sunday.
Mac Allister continued. “I would like to take this opportunity to give my warm respect to his family that we should never forget, as they are the ones who are the most suffering from the tragic streets of him and his brother Andre. My respect and love for all of them.”
Jota’s widow Root Kaldosau is expected to attend Friday’s season opening game at Anfield along with three young children. Liverpool boss Arne Slot said in his program notes before the match:
“We believe Diogo’s wife, his children and his family will be present, and it is important that as a club, they always show that when they deal with this most tragic situation, they have our love and support. We will always be there for them.”
