Benjamin Sesco’s new man pays in comparison to Victor Gyoker

Benjamin Sesco officially completed his move to Manchester United over the weekend, joining Arsenal’s new boy Victor Gyoker in the Premier League after both big money strikers landed Premier League moves

Benjamin Sesco has earned much less than fellow Premier League rookie Viktor Gyokeres after refusing to make a bigger pay elsewhere to join Manchester United.

Newcastle was keen to sign Slovenia International and offered him a higher salary to agree to his term, but Sesco chose to take on Reuben Amorin’s project at Old Trafford instead.

Sesko joined United on a five-year deal paying RB Leipzig, landing the new centre forward for £74 million to £66.4 million with add-ons for £7.6 million. The 22-year-old earns around £160,000 a year. That means Sesco is not approaching the top winner of Old Trafford, and Casemiro brings the mountain to the top, bringing home £350,000 a week and £18.2 million a year.

Certainly, Sesco actually left the money at the table as he agreed to work for Amorim in Manchester rather than Eddie Howe in the northeast.

Meanwhile, Gyoker joined Sporting Lisbon’s Arsenal in July in a deal worth £64 million. The Swedish striker, who previously worked for Portugal’s Amorim, had a wide range of European clubs to monitor his situation – few people actually plunged in to negotiate a trade with sports before signing a five-year contract in North London.

The 27-year-old is currently earning £200,000 a week, or 10.4 MA years at Arsenal before the bonus. Only Declan Rice, Martin Odegard, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Herberts are making more money with the Emirates as things stand.

Therefore, Sesko earns £40,000 less than his fellow newcomers. However, as United creates a Champions League qualifying spot this season, Slovenia’s wages will rise to £200,000 a week, making him equal Gyoker.

Gyokeres is set to bring in what is clearly lacking in Arsenal these days: goals from strikers. Gunner was third in the top scoring rankings last season, but still 22 fewer goals overall than the 2023/24 campaign.

The Emirates’ hope is that it will be a deciding factor to win their first title in over 20 years. Given that he scored a whopping 97 goals in 102 games to help the sport lead to two league titles during his time at the club, Gyoker could be a man of work.

Discussing Gyoker’s signature and what he brings, Arteta said:

“He brings a clinical edge that is likely to translate the clinical edge into a target, and the intelligent movements in the box are always a threat. We are excited by what Victor brings to our team and look forward to starting to work with him.”

Meanwhile, Sesco is also committed to bringing goals and support to Man United this season. In the 2024/25 campaign, the Red Devils managed just 44 goals. This was second in 2021/22, when he scored 73 compared to his final second place finish in 2021/22.

With Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo already in the Old Trafford building, Sesko will be on the forefront of a new look this season, which he plans to turn United’s fate. During his short Leipzig career, the young forward scored 39 goals and assisted eight times in 87 games in all competitions.

Discussing his new club, Sesco said: “Manchester United history is clearly very special, but what really excites me is the future. When we discussed the project, it was clear that this team would continue to grow and compete for the biggest trophies soon.

“From the moment I arrived I was able to feel the positive energy and family environment the club created. It’s clearly a great place to reach my maximum level and meet all my ambitions. I can’t wait to learn from Reuben, start connecting with my teammates and achieve success that we all know can do together.”
