The Premier League is ready to bring in a new REF cam for the opening weekend of the season – Moves supported by broadcasters, clubs and referees –
The Premier League will be testing REF CAM in selected matches in the opening game of fixtures as they consider making the new technology a permanent feature of the rest of the season’s video games.
Sky Sports and TNT Sports support innovative ideas that clubs are also giving court approval. The Premier League and broadcasters are embracing new technologies that they believe will improve the television experience for their audiences.
Although ref cams do not provide live footage, they can be used to provide close-up replays of match incidents from different angles. Fired for some of their decisions, PGMOL supports the concept that gives insight into the difficulties of the referee’s match.
They also believe that officials will show limited views on occasions of important cases, the Guardian reports.
FIFA, along with the chairman of the umpire committee Pierluigi Collina, tried Ref Cams at this summer’s Club World Cup, saying the experiment was no longer “beyond expectations.” After reviewing the tournament, soccer MP IFAB granted approval for the REF CAM trial, which will be extended to domestic competitions last month.

The Premier League tried out new equipment in the final two matches of the US preseason tournament, including Manchester United’s clash with Everton in Atlanta. With REF CAM technology, the referee wears a camera on his right ear. It is connected to the microphone and transmitter and sends the video to the broadcaster.
PGMOL has been trying to introduce such innovations for some time, with referee Jarred Gillett wearing a head-mounted REF cam during Premier League matches between Crystal Palace and Red Devils at last year’s trial.
The footage was only aired in the highlights program at a later date, but it helped show what could be done in-game. The Premier League tried out the GoPro camera attached to the chest in the US Summer Series two years ago, without broadcasting any action during the match.
During the Club World Cup, REF cam footage appeared on the big screen of the stadium and was broadcast by Dazn during the game. This is something the Premier League wants to replicate. FIFA is also expected to approve World Cup innovations next summer after a successful Club World Cup success.
