It turned out to be a very troublesome situation for both the club and the players. How will the saga end? And who’s wrong here?
TNT Sports experts sat down to discuss issues surrounding Isaac’s future at the club.
Ally McCoist- “You can’t throw away your toys in a pram”
“He has to knuckle down and do what he demands from Newcastle. The player wants a huge amount of strength, but if he signs a contract like him, in my opinion, you should expect to respect that contract.
“You can’t suddenly start throwing toys from the pram. You know if you’re playing as much as you want, and look at your manager and say, ‘I want to leave.’
“I don’t think you can knock on the door or ask for things from the club after being a major factor in Newcastle’s success last season. You’re on a contract. If the club wants to sell you, it’s a different conversation.
“If they receive a bid that is acceptable from their perspective, they can come to you and say it’s quite a thing for a lot of money and we want to accept it.
“I can’t sign a contract and in three months I’ll say I want to leave because another club is interested in me. I just don’t think that’s right.”
Steve McManaman – “Something upset him.”
“If you’re Newcastle, you don’t have to do anything. I don’t know what happened, but reading between the lines he was promised something that hadn’t come to fruition last year.
“There have been a lot of changes at the top of Newcastle after the sports director left and club CEO Darren Eels resigned for health reasons.
“But he has a three-year contract with Newcastle. If Newcastle doesn’t bring in a centre forward, he has to stay. That’s just as easy.
“The season starts and once the transfer window closes, that’s the end. I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes, but obviously something has confused him.
“He doesn’t look like (real) Sociedads to Newcastle, and for a huge amount of money, and that type of player who can act like this.
Michelle Antonio – “Why should you be faithful?”
“It’s a very interesting situation, you need to know where things are heading and whether the club is happy to let you go or not.
“But I honestly say that the club is no longer loyal to the players.
“The fans can be loyal, but the actual owners are no longer loyal to the players. This means that players should not be loyal to the owner or the club. At the end of the day, they will always drive you away.

“The Best Feeling” – Isaac plays and scores for Newcastle

“If he wants to win things and make his life better, I feel he has the opportunity to do so. Meanwhile, you have a contract with the club and if you don’t find a way, you’ll be stuck in that situation.
“It’s important to add that Isak is one of the best players in Newcastle, but if he doesn’t make the move, he’ll be unhappy with the club.
“So, it might be better to take the money and let it go, rather than keeping a star player who isn’t helping the club. You have to give something from either party involved.”
