Liverpool 3-2 Athletic Bilbao: Cody Gakupo scored twice on the far right and scored once on the wrong side as Liverpool scored Athletic Bilbao in their second match of the night
Cody Gappo could not hinder the action as Liverpool won the second of his best friends for the second time against Athletic Bilbao on the same night.
After the second string side inspired by teenager Rio Nugumoha, scored 4-1 opening friendly at night, Gakupo scored twice on the far right and one in the wrong one in the eventful 15 minutes in the second half.
Previously Mo Salah had given the Reds the lead after being teeed by Hugo Ekitike before Oihan Sancet leveled out.
In the second season, after Gakupo spouted out Ryan Gravenberch’s efforts, Gakupo attacked him and after he inadvertently headed over Malone Sannady’s efforts to his own net, Dutchman through Simon’s grasp, it was still for Sara to miss the penalty. This is the main topic of the game.
1. I can’t take my eyes off Florian Whartz
There are players who just move differently. Florian Wurtz is one of them.
The Germans clearly became the focus of Liverpool’s offensive method, spinning one hip in the opening exchange, making him seem cheating on half the crowd and the athletic defensive defender.
Playing with his socks, rolling down, there’s an old school look and vibe about him, but in the excitement of Alexander Isaac’s possible move, we must not forget that the Reds have already secured one of the world soccer premier attackers this summer. He gets close to score twice early on, and promises to be very enjoyable.
2. Hugo Ekitike is making his mark…and Mo Salah is impressed
If there’s one thing you can do to love yourself to the Anfield crowd, it’s to give you everything. If there is one thing Mo Salah can do to love himself, it is to give him an assist.
Hugo Ekitike managed to do both when he opened here for 15 minutes, impressing his supporters with his strength and energy, showing them both when he piqued Salah for the opening game. He may still be a work in progress, but the ingredients are clearly there to help him have an immediate impact on the Premier League.
3. There will be no more defensive questions
With both Virgil Van Dijks suffering from illness, Konate Ibrahima was the last recognized central defender for 180 minutes, given that there is no sight of Joe Gomez yet.
Andy Robertson and Trey Nyoni worked in the first game, while Wataru Endo was stationed with Konate in the second, but Arne Slot doesn’t want to start a meaningful game with the centre-back player, so a new addition of the role is important. The Reds did not overturn themselves with the glory of either of the athletic goals, particularly the second goal. Concerns are certainly raised.
Sports director Richard Hughes, who saw him watch in Anfield’s main stand, has a big company to do next month.
4. Dominique Schuboschlei and Cody Gakpo are set for the big season
After lifting major honors and equipping the game, some players will kick on. That could be the case for Dominik Szoboszlai and Cody Gakpo.
Wirtz’s arrival has led many to claim that the Hungarian would be the guy he missed in the middle of Liverpool, but his diversity means that he could actually end up playing more matches.
Surrounded by deeper roles, he was aggressive and always looked to put Liverpool on his front paw.
Gakupo also dominates the left side of the attack, a constant threat, scoring two goals on either side of his own target, and appears to enjoy the knowledge that he will become the first pick on the left where Luis Diaz is gone.
5. Anfield pauses to remember Diogo Jota
Of course, this was Liverpool’s first match at Anfield since Diogo Jota’s tragic pass last month, and the Portuguese had kept it in mind for many of both friendly matches before and for both.
The most moving tribute came in both 20 minutes, in which the action stopped and both players sets vented a crowd of Portuguese as they vented around Anfield.
Reds defender Costas Timikas also read “Wish Youde Here” on No. 20, the new tattoo he gave in honor of Jota in his first match.
