Manchester United supporters group plans to protest ahead of the club’s first Premier League match of the season, with co-owner Ir Jim Ratcliffe claiming he will quit if he becomes unpopular just like the Glazers

Manchester United co-owner Ir Jim Ratcliffe has already admitted that he will leave the club if he becomes as unpopular as Glazer. Ratcliffe bought United shares last year and took full control of the football operations.

However, Ratcliffe has made many unpopular decisions since he was in charge, hiking ticket prices and redundant many staff. United also endured last season’s worst Premier League campaign, finishing in 15th place.

As a result, a 1958 supporter group plans to protest before United’s first league game against Arsenal on August 17th. The group believes Ratcliffe is “complaining the club in continuing to erode what it is.”

And the Ineos chief previously suggested that he leave the club if he starts receiving the same reception as Glazer. “That could be uncomfortable, and I probably failed on the frontline that I enjoy,” he told The Times in March.

“I can hold it for a while. I don’t care that it’s not popular because I don’t like seeing Manchester unite where they are and no one likes the decisions we have to make.

“In the end, if the Glazer family reaches the extent of abuse, they have to say, ‘Look, that’s enough, let other people do this.’ They can’t really come to the match, Glaser.

“We bought it, but haven’t seen it since. It’s ‘Thank you, Jim, you’re doing a really good job.’ At this point, I don’t need to walk around like that. But it will kill the object, isn’t it?

In 1958, United plan to lead the protest outside Old Trafford before a clash with Arsenal, displaying the banner against both Ratcliffe and Glaser.

A group spokesman said: “It’s a new season, but the same old ownership issue. Glaser and his debt pile are 20 years too long. That’s enough.

“We don’t allow some natural optimism and some shiny new signatures. We can’t deflect them from the larger off-field painting. Jim Ratcliffe chose to go to bed with Glazer.

“So, on August 17th, we protest not only the Glazers, but now the Jim Ratcliffe. We used to be seen as a beacon of men, saviors and hope, which many people, including themselves, are now complicit in our club’s continued erosion of what it is.

“Jim Ratcliffe, you chose your side, and it’s not ours. You’re now shoulder-to-shoulder with Glaser. Your mask has slipped. You’re not a Savior. You’re like a (red) demon in disguise.”
