Harry Maguire’s Manchester United contract expires at the end of the 2025-26 season, with head coach Reuben Amorim facing a major decision about the future of centre-backs
Manchester United manager Reuben Amorim is ready to get Harry Maguire on board despite extensive interest. The centre-back era at Old Trafford seemed to have happened a while ago, but he’s back to the club’s plans.
Maguire was a surplus of requirements under Eric Ten Hag, but was opposed to leaving last summer despite interest in the Premier League. Ten Hag was fired in October and his successor Amorim found the £80 million man’s role before United caused his contract extension in January.
The now 32-year-old former Leicester defender has finished his contract at the end of this season and will be free to talk to overseas suitors in January. But if the players and clubs speak up, he won’t go anywhere.
According to the email, Maguire is keen to sign an extension that will see the rest of his career at United unfold. It is said that the club is on the same page, but discussions have not yet begun.
Amorim included Maguire in his six-person leadership group, along with Diogo Dalot, Lisandro Martinez, Tom Heaton, Noussair Mazraoui and Captain Bruno Fernandes. This makes it unlikely to have an exit despite the five Premier League clubs about to snag.

The interest in Maguire wasn’t just from the UK. According to the same postal report, two unnamed Italian clubs explored the move alongside three in the Premier League.
There were also suggestions of interest from Türkiye and France. However, five approaches from the UK and Italy are knocked back and do not show that the current exit may continue.
“We have a leadership group now,” United boss Amorim said of the change. “It’s not just Bruno. It’s not just Harry. It’s six guys. They’re responsible for the group.
“There are a few things I had to deal with last year. This season, you dealt with it. The small issues are with you guys. You’re responsible. I think all of these small changes are helping the group.
United have trimmed teams in other regions, with Marcus Rashford lending to Barcelona, with Victor Lindelof and Christian Eriksen leaving for free. More exits are expected, and Jadon Sancho is located in the shop window.
Even though Amorim has already added more than £100 million in talent to his team, more sales could potentially free up funds for further investments. Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo have completed the big-budget move, with young Paraguayan defender Diego Leon also taking part, and the bid for striker Benjamin Sesco could be seen growing further before the start of the new season.
