Gary Neville won’t be happy when Man Utd approaches Mega-Money Benjamin Sesko Transfer

Manchester United fans are excited about the prospect of signing Benjamin Sesco, but Gary Neville is unlikely to win completely after comments last season

Gully Neville’s hope of Manchester United to sign six new players appears to be in tatters as the club closes with a big Benjamin Sesco deal. Reuben Amorim’s side is a favorite to sign the Slovenians after choosing the Red Devils over Newcastle.

After RB Leipzig accepted the £78 million bid, the magpie appeared to be in pole position to sign him. United have offered a package that is understood to be worth around £73.8 million, but it has not yet been accepted by the German side.

Sesko will be his fourth signature to arrive at Old Trafford this summer after Paraguayan’s left-back Diego Leon, Mateus Cuña and Brian Mbeumo. While some might consider this a successful window, Neville felt United needed at least six fresh faces, including two midfielders, after this disastrous campaign.

It’s possible that United will bring in more bodies and Sesco before the windows close. But most, if not all of United’s budget, would have been in the Sesco deal. That means there’s no hope for Neville to have at least two signatures unlikely.

United is expected to be strengthened next in the goalkeeping division, but will likely only sign Andre Onana’s backup. Speaking before the Europa League final, Neville insisted that United needed a dramatic overhaul in the summer.

“Five or six players are the minimum (needed) to be able to change the way he (Amorim) wants to play,” Neville said. “We have at least two forwards, a midfielder in the middle, a definite 2 wingbacks and another centre back.

“They need at least six players. Reuben is very good at identifying the players he wants from the club. That’s really clear to everyone. The club’s job is to get them out now and get an alternative to what he likes and wants for his team.”

Neville isn’t just thinking United’s recruitment team needs to draw in more players. Gary Reinker claimed this week that they “need more,” but Alan Shearer said it was a football podcast. “Two good signatures… you need at least three.

If Sesko’s move is complete, United will sign three forwards and one left-wing back. However, for the 18-year-old Leon, it is currently uncertain as to whether United considers him to be the first team player or if he will be on the under-21 side.

If Sesko arrives, United’s transfer spending will surpass the £200 million mark and could close the spending unless they can recover the big fees from Alejandro Garnacho, Jadon Sancho and Antony.

Amorim has significantly bolstered the offense that was a real problem area for United last season, but Neville is not entirely happy with their business given that he wanted more midfielders and defenders to join the club.

But he is pleased with the personnel brought in. He told Sky Sports:

“What’s going on now is that Reuben Amorim is identifying players he doesn’t want on his team, and it seems he’s kicking them out. It’s positive, and on paper I like the signing of Cunha and Mbeumo.

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim will be conducting a pre-match interview ahead of the pre-season friendly match between Manchester United and Leeds United at Strawberry Arena on July 19, 2025 in Solna, Sweden.

“Why do I like them? They have Premier League experience. They look like Manchester United style.

“When I look at Garnacho, I think Sancho and Antony are working in more jinkers, smaller spaces, and I always felt that United needed a player who could really expand their teams by opening their legs.

United’s new arrival and current star harvest should be at its best when the Premier League begins. They have home crashes against Arsenal, Burnley and Chelsea, and have away matches against Fulham, Manchester City and Brentford in the first six matches of the new campaign.
