Harvey Elliott spoke after his best friend Tyler Morton left Liverpool and joined Lyon on a £15 million contract this summer, and the midfielder left Anfield 14 years later.
Harvey Elliott sent an emotional message to his best friend, Tyler Morton, after the 22-year-old completed a permanent move from Liverpool. Morton joined Liverpool at the age of seven and was a boyish fan.
He went through the club’s academy and made his competitive debut in 2021, appearing in 14 seniors. However, Morton left the club and joined France’s Said Lyon on a £15 million contract.
And Elliott, who became good friends with Morton after joining Liverpool in Fulham in 2019 as a 16-year-old, says he’s “very proud” of the midfielder. In response to Lyon’s announcement video, Elliot wrote in his Instagram Story:
Elliott could also move this summer, and RB Leipzig hopes to sign him as a potential replacement for the Xavi Simons.
Simons is on the verge of joining Chelsea for £60 million, and Leipzig has contacted both Liverpool and Elliott over the move. Elliott is a young Liverpool fan and is understood to be reluctant to leave, but is ready to move on for his career.

The 22-year-old made six starts in all competitions last season and admitted to being open to leaving Anfield while working internationally with England at the Under-21 European Championships.
“I and my team are 22 years old, so it’s just a situation where the team has to have a conversation. I’ll be 23 next season,” Elliott said. “It’s a short career, so I don’t want to waste many years of my career.
“I don’t know what will happen. I need to reflect. I need to see if I’m happy with what I’m doing and how I can improve as a player because that’s the most important thing.
“I just want to be the best possible version of myself. If it goes somewhere, it’s a decision I have to make and I just need to see what happens.
“There’s nothing I don’t want to leave. I love the club. I love the fans, my team. I support them too. But most importantly, it’s what’s best for my career.”
