Alan Shearer has not hidden his frustration over Newcastle’s constant failure to move this summer, as he laid out his thoughts on how to handle the situation of Alexander Isaac.
Alan Shearer admits that the number of players who rejected Newcastle’s interest “doesn’t look good.” This is because he cited a large hole in the hierarchy as a possible reason for the editing failure.
Magpies tried to land a large number of players, but most of them decided to head elsewhere. The club secured the signature of Antony Elanga from Nottingham Forest for £55 million, but was disappointed after disappointment beyond that.
Joao Pedro, James Trafford and Bryan Mbeumo were all on Eddie Howe’s radar, but he’s seen them move to their Premier League rivals.
Newcastle’s business is not supported by the lack of senior figures at St. James Park. Paul Mitchell left his role as sports director and Darren Yales resigned as CEO last year, but Shearer is not impressed by the lack of recruitment.
He told Betfair:

“The sports directors just left a few months ago and they know that, so it’s a big surprise that those spaces aren’t filled. I don’t know if that has something to do with the lack of business in Newcastle and the number of players who say no to them.
If Alexander Isaac ends up leaving Newcastle, the biggest hit of the summer could still come. The striker has proven himself among the European elite, but tells the club’s boss that Liverpool wants to turn and explore other places.
While British record fees could be charged to drive Swedes out of St James’ Park, Shearer asserts that Isaac will need to be replaced before he leaves. Newcastle missed out on a key target as Benjamin Sesco was poised to choose Manchester United above them.
“Eddie needs to be at the persuasive best to try and turn Isaac’s head in terms of wanting to go to Liverpool,” Shearer said. “You get the money on the condition that he wants to go and Eddie can’t turn his head. But before that, you have to replace him.”
