Should Chelsea go out and buy a “pre-made” goalkeeper for the rest of the transfer window?
It’s an option proposed by club legend Joe Cole.
Did the Spanish buds show the topic on the buds or should they still be addressed?
Cole talks to TNT Sports about how he saw Chelsea’s summer evolution under Enzo Maresca.
“So I think they’re going to continue what the plan is at the moment, buy the younger players and try to get along with financial fair play while still improving, and see if they’re going to change course.
“For example, I hope we come and buy ready-made goalkeepers that we can come in and forget about the development of the players, you know, you know, you know, you know, you know, that’s what I think is needed right now.
“I think the goalkeepers out there are really, really good, but the club’s goalkeepers now need to step up to the next level.
“Or if you don’t believe it, go buy (EMI) Martinez from the villa.
“He’s a proven winner who can help the group.”

The Devil’s Donnaruma
We will dig deep into each of the numbers from three goalkeepers, Sanchez, Martinez and Donnaruma.
From league data taken over the past two seasons, it is clear how Donnarumma is at the level above.
Italy’s save rate is the highest at 75.5%, acknowledging the lowest target from target XG and also preventing the most targets.
Does it make him the solution, and is it the right move for him?
View from Europe
For more answers, I first checked in with my colleagues from Eurosports in France and Italy.
“Gianluigi donnarumma is one of the best goalkeepers in the world,” says Julian Pereira of Eurosport France.
“He was certainly the best last season, especially in the Champions League, so the club that signs him this summer will definitely make a good move.
“There are two small questions. Despite improving on many aspects of the game (particularly set pieces), he probably isn’t the top goalkeeper when it comes to playing with his feet. I get the impression that this is still an important standard for Chelsea.
“Secondly, his salary is very high, but this may not be a major obstacle.

“For players, he probably won’t do better than he did last season, so leaving PSG now might be a good thing.”
“With Donnaruma, Chelsea will probably get the best goalkeeper (or one of the best) in the world and improve the quality of that role,” says Pace.
“And also, Chelsea will be a great solution for Donnaruma. He will continue to play for top clubs. This is good news for Italian football and national teams.”
