Manchester United is showing off a £50 million transformation for the club at Carrington training base.
Ir Jim Ratcliffe believes Manchester United will have a “world-class facility” following the £50 million transformation of the club’s training grounds.
The Red Devils have been calling Carrington Home since January 2000, and have moved away from the long-standing base, Cliff, to a facility that would then cost £14.3 million. The training ground has been renovated over the past 25 years, but has lagged behind many Premier League clubs, so last June announced plans to turn it into a state-of-the-art complex.
Renovation work was completed between 2024 and 25, and Reuben Amorim’s team moved this week to the first team building for the man returning from the US preseason tour. Ratcliffe’s $300 million (£236.7 million at contract) Infrastructure Investments Infrastructure Investments to become a minority shareholder funded projects United believes will support in the fight to return to the top.

“This is one of the most famous brands in the world,” the United co-owner said at a ceremony in which the red ribbon was cut in front of the first team team, club leadership and staff. “I stand shoulder to shoulder with Coca-Cola and apples.
“The club must compete at the highest level suitable for the size and history of the club. World-class training facilities don’t take us to that location alone, but that is one of the key elements of modern facilities. Now there is one.
“When I first came to Carrington two years ago, there was a presentation here. It was clear. It was a great facility. I was sure in 2000, but 25 years later it wasn’t at the level needed for one of the top four or five clubs in the world.
“It was our first big decision to invest in this training facility in the first quarter of 2024. There were a lot of deniers who said, ‘I won’t do it in 12 months’, but I’m happy to say this project came on budget and on time. ”
Foster + Partners was appointed last September to develop a master plan for the Old Trafford Stadium area, but has led the biggest upgrade to Carrington since opening at the turn of the millennium. The club says it is “designed to inspire collaboration, innovation and excellence.”
Looking back at the old building, Ratcliffe said: “Downstairs, there weren’t many windows on the first floor. I felt like I was in a hospital in the basement. It was a bit dark, a pessimistic rabbit Warren.
The healthcare sector has improved significantly, with players’ well-being at the forefront of planning, including the construction of a barber shop next to the restaurant.
Colette Roche, Chief Operating Officer who leads the project, said: “I’m really, really proud of the team. As you know, it was complicated and I had to work in the environment while a lot of things were going on in the background.
“So it’s fantastical on budget and on time, and for me, I think you’re just going to do projects of this size and size, you’re going to get people involved, you plan it the right way, and plan how amazing it is and how amazing it is.”
