Oliver Glasner has raised serious doubts about his Crystal Palace future by suggesting he can leave with his star player this summer. The Eagles withstanded the turbulence despite last year’s FA Cup victory.
The Palace found itself trapped in a fierce legal dispute with UEFA after being denied a spot in the Europa League due to multi-club ownership restrictions. This set-off severely hindered the transfer activity as only two new signatures were secured by Ajax’s Borna Sosa and goalkeeper Walter Benitez.
Meanwhile, their valuable assets continue to attract attention from their Premier League rivals. Arsenal is reportedly circling around Ebebeki Eze, but Liverpool is aiming for Captain Mark Guech.
Recent speculation suggests that the Reds are at the forefront of former Chelsea defenders entering the final year of their current contract. Now, Glasner dropped the bomb by showing that if the centre-back departs, he could also consider his position.
Before Sunday’s Community Shield showdown with Crystal Palace, the Austrian manager revealed: “Mark and I – we have the same destiny. I can’t speak.
“Mark decides about his future. Of course, everyone wants to sign Mark’s new contract. That’s his decision. Everyone wants to get this team going well.
“I don’t know what will happen in this crazy transfer market at times.”
Pushing whether his own future depends on the rest of the window, Glasner responded ominously: “We will see.”
So far, he added: “The Palace lack of action, he has added: “If you want to be better than last year, I said, ‘Let’s sign at least two players, and then we can achieve this.’
“If Crystal Palace wants to play European football, if you want to climb to the Premier League table and recreate success again, that’s what you have to do. Everyone knows this in the building.
“Of course, if players come in early when starting with the play season, it’s helpful because we have time to train here. We’re very passive. We’re lacking numbers. We need to add players, especially with quality.”
Palace launched a new campaign at Wembley on Sunday, launching its Premier League season with Chelsea at Stamford Bridge in seven days.
Eze’s fate could be sealed at that point.
The English star boasts a £62.5 million release clause in his Selhurst Park deal, which expires on August 15th.
If no suitors appear before that deadline, the palace is expected to demand significantly more than that number.
