Benjamin Sesco has opened about the Manchester United signature after £74 million from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig. The striker was deeply connected to Newcastle United, the Red Devils’ Premier League rival, but instead chose to sign on the side of Reuben Amorim.
It comes after a long drawn search of the striker as United are linked to Viktor Gyokeres, Ollie Watkins and even Nicolas Jackson. Eventually, United landed in Sesco and officially announced their latest summer signature after persuading him to choose Old Trafford at St. James Park.
In an interview with United’s official website, Sesco explained: “Manchester United history is clearly very special, but what really excites me is the future. When we discussed the project, it was clear that this team would soon continue to grow and compete again with the biggest trophies.
“From the moment I arrived I was able to feel the positive energy and family environment the club created. It’s clearly a great place to reach my maximum level and fulfill all my ambitions. I can’t wait to learn from Reuben (Amorim), connect with my teammates and achieve success that we all know are capable together.”
United football director Jason Wilcox added: “Benjamin has a rare combination of inspiring pace and the ability to dominate the defender physically. He has become one of the most exceptional young talents in football in the world.
Sesko arrives at United as one of the most popular young talents in European football, passing through the Red Bull Pathway. Last season, Sesco scored 13 goals, supporting the German side five times with 33 appearances in the Bundesliga.
Sesko portrays a comparison of Erling Haaland and his electric play style, with Slovenian International boasting a similarly tall 6-foot-5-inch frame. United are said to have followed Sesco because he was a teenager. Recruitment director Christopher Vivell originally signed for Red Bull Salzburg early in his career.
Following the acquisition of Sesco, United is expected to pay attention to strengthening its midfield division, with Brighton’s Carlos Valleva being controversial. Contact information was made through an intermediary earlier this week, and the 21-year-old was considered worth more than £100 million by Brighton.
