The future of head coach Danny Roll on Wednesday has been uncertain for months, with a permanent exit on the card after negotiations with the club’s top brass.
Sheffield Wednesday said goodbye to their head coach, Danny Roll, from just 12 days out of the championship opener and weeks after he returned to the club in the middle of the preseason.
Rohl, 36, has established himself as one of the most exciting young coaches in the EFL since his arrival in Hillsboro in October 2023. However, speculation about his future has continued in recent months in light of the financial issues that continue to plague the club.
I understand that he provided information to German on Wednesday towards the end of the season he was due to leave.
But despite links with other jobs, Roll made an unexpected return to the club earlier this month after first missing out on the first two weeks of preseason training.
But the story of the exit continues, and now there is an agreement that Roll will leave the club for free, Athletic says.

Rohl’s No 2, Henrik Pedersen, is likely to take over in his place. He was expected to become the club’s manager after signing a new contract before adding yet another twist at Rohl Saga earlier this month.
News of the Roll exit comes months after former Bayern Munich and Southampton coaches are tied to other jobs, including saints and vacant seats at Leicester, both have been filled ever since. He is now free to join another club, but is expected to spend some time deciding what will come next.
He left the in danger club and is currently under numerous embargoes on Wednesday after Dejphon Chansiri failed to pay his staff on time.
The situation in Hillsboro is already having a detrimental effect on club preparations for the new season that begins next weekend.
Josh Windus and Michael Smith were allowed to release from behind that neither had been paid and proceeded, but the club sold Juidi Gassama and Anthony Moussaba to the Rangers and Samsung Pol, respectively. Club stubborn Callum Patterson also joined the MK Dons after his club contract expired last month.
Chansiri was urged to sell the club at many parties, who are thought to be interested in buying the troubling championship outfits.
