Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount hopes to return to the England squad for the 2026 World Cup and work.
Mason Mount has revealed that England boss Thomas Tuschel called him to reveal he wanted Manchester United’s Star Hope to return the Three Lions.
Mount’s final England appearance was in 2022 at the World Cup in Qatar, when Gareth Southgate’s team went to France on the quarter-final stage after losing 2-1. The injured destroyed Mount’s first two seasons at United following a £60 million move from Chelsea. The 26-year-old manager managed 11 final semesters.
Despite having been away from the international scene for two and a half years, Mount said his former Chelsea boss Tuchel had left the door open to return to the England Fold ahead of next year’s US World Cup.
“He called me,” Mount said. “He called me and said he was calling a lot of players and wanted to catch up. You don’t know how many players maybe 40 or 50 players have called?

“But it was good to see his face. It was good to catch up with him and it was good to talk to him. He seemed to have a lot of energy, as I remember, and he tried out a new role. He was very excited and it was obviously good to catch up with him and see what he was preparing for.
“I played quite a bit under him. I won the Champions League, so that’s positive. But I think it’s completely different from England. I think it’s competing with the place, the amount of people he can choose, it’s a little different from club football.
“There’s no guarantee that he played for me, but it gives you more and you want to make more pushes, you can get back to the team. So it was really good to talk to him. He was very excited.
“As a player, you always want to play for your country. It’s a very honorable thing to do to play for your country. The opportunity for you to wear that shirt is great. I had 36 caps for the UK so I know I can play for your country.
“We need to put what happened last season right, so I’ll certainly look at it first and then see what happens at the end of the season.”
Mount said for his personal purposes: “I think it’s about kicking from the place last season, and I put my injuries and stuff behind me and I look forward to what I can do.
