His son Hyun Min ended his 10-year stay at Tottenham after making the “difficult decision ever” to leave for Los Angeles FC on a record-breaking major league football transfer.
It was revealed on Saturday that his son will leave the Spurs a few months after he captained the club to Europa League glory, with 173 goals in 454 appearances.
The 33-year-old arrived in Los Angeles Tuesday after an agreement between Tottenham and LAFC hit a deal of over £20 million, and a day later he was confirmed his move.
In a post to Spurs fans on Instagram, my son signed a first two-year contract with LAFC with two more options.
“It’s time to say goodbye to Tottenham Hotspur. My home for the past 10 years. When I arrived in 2015, I didn’t speak English, I didn’t know London, but you welcomed me, trusted me, believed in me, stood by me through everything by my side.
“I was a boy from Korea and had big dreams that I shouldn’t have had a chance. And now, 10 years from now, North London will be in my heart forever.
“I had the privilege of making friends here for life, celebrating being a godfather here, captaining our special club here. I poured my heart and soul into this club.
“If I was about to leave, when our mission was achieved together, I felt that it had to remain with my terms and with pride and honor.”
My son joined Spurs in 2015 from Bayer Leverkusen. After a tough debut campaign, the Korean captain became one of the best players at the club, becoming the Premier League in the process.
Alongside Crime Harry Kane’s old partner, the son holds a record of most targeted involvement by the Premier League duo, with the pair supporting the record on 47 occasions of competition.
The Changcheon-born attacker won the league’s Golden Boots Award in the 2021-22 season after scoring 23 goals, placing 17th on the Division’s list of all-time best scorers with 127 goals.
Under former boss Mauricio Pochettino, the son’s consistent display helped transform Tottenham into a real title contender, but Silverware continued to hint at them after the second-place finish in 2017 followed by the Champions League runner-up spot two years later.
