Barcelona has been accused of lying from Athletic Bilbao about their attempts to sign Nico Williams.
Inaki Williams said Barcelona had launched a “dirty” media campaign this summer to try to sign his brother Nico from Athletic Bilbao.
The failed attempt to sign Spanish International clearly led to Barca, shifting its focus to Marcus Rashford’s loan deal, which has instead been mandated to build next summer.
However, Athletic Club captain Inaki Williams said most of the reports about the brothers’ transfer were lies.
“Don’t my brother join Barca? A lot of what was said about Nico is a lie,” Inaki Williams said. “They ran a media campaign thinking it would work for them, and they have tainted a lot of things.

“My brother Nico had many options, not just A and B, but where to go. What happened in Nico was not easy. They (the supporter of the Athletic Club) smashed one of his car’s windows.
“On a family level, there was a lot of talk about my siblings, so it was a bit complicated. Much of what was said about Nico is not true.
“Everyone has the right to think about and reflect their future. At many points this summer, people have not been fair to my siblings. When someone goes to a restaurant and gets a menu, it can take a few minutes for them to make a choice.
“My brother’s decision wasn’t easy. Nico’s maturity has a wide range of options, he chose Athletic, a club that has made enormous progress.
Barcelona chief Joan Laporta claimed earlier this month that the “big difference” in terms of payments had finally decided to sign Rashford on loan from Manchester United before they left the race and signed Nico Williams. They were also interested in Louis Diaz before departing Liverpool for Bayern Munich.
“Nico Williams’ agents offered him the possibility of signing him,” he told Marca. “Deco said he had to listen to suggestions from Nico Williams’ agents. In principle, my priorities were Lewis Diaz or Rashford. In these cases, I trust the sports director who said he should always listen to what he is making proposals.
“There was a huge difference between what we were told and what actually happened in terms of payment terms, the agent’s committee: a set of variables that indicate that no transaction occurs.”
Williams has now continued to sign a new 10-year contract with his younger brother and Basque club, claiming that Basque’s comments were going well.
