Louis Diaz sets out, with the options on the left being seen by the Liverpool chief.
Liverpool’s exterior is set to soar beyond the £300 million mark for summer spending, but what caught my eye during the preseason was the teenager he brought in a year ago. Reds boss Arne Slot tried to quell some of the growing hype after a stunning solo goal from 16-year-old Rio ngumoha, Japan.
However, on the day Luis Diaz set out and the options on the left are seen, the contract from Chelsea’s academy last summer was brightly shining in a 3-1 comeback victory with Yokohama F. Marinos. Bayer Leverkusen’s £116 million man Florian Wirtz also scored his first goal in the colours of Liverpool, making him a decent training session on dangerous pitches in the Far East.
It was the equalizer after the opening game of the J1 League, which was 55/55 minutes. Teenagers Trey Nyoni and Ngumoha scored in the action-packed second half as Liverpool said goodbye to the Far East.
Ngumoha certainly got his chance on the tour and pushed the first team opportunity next season. Liverpool has Cody Gakupo as the left choice in Diaz’s absence, but the £79 million man Hugo Ekichike is also available, as expected, if Alexander Isaac joins in this window and plays the role of No. 9.
However, Ngumoha is highly regarded in Liverpool as one of the most exciting prospects in the country, and slots must maintain a strict rein to raise hopes about him.

“He wasn’t the only one who influenced the game from the bench because the young man Trey Nyoni got the support (and assisted) of Jeremy Fripon,” the Reds boss said. “I think Curtis Jones played a big role in getting the ball midfield in the first goal.
“Rio again showed the quality he has. That’s great because there are so many great players for us. But getting really good players through the academy is always helpful and always gives the team energy.
“It’s always nice to see a young player, age 16, 17, or 18, already affecting the game.” There was also a moment in the game that squared it on Macca (Alexis Mac Allister) or Curtis.
“So I’ve also learned parts for him. If you’re 16 and can influence the game like he is, it’s definitely worth a compliment.”
Liverpool sports director Richard Hughes will continue to work on new signatures, but Slot will continue to prepare for the new season with two best friends with Athletic Bilbao on Monday. They will then face Crystal Palace on Community Shield before the Premier League title defense kicks off at home to Bournemouth on Friday, August 15th.
Slot added: “There are no moments to enjoy last season, so this season and our full focus is on how we need to prepare players for other tough seasons.
“I thought it was already tough last season, so looking at what Premier League teams are doing, the Premier League will be stronger than last season.”
