Roy Keene was running around with many of his colleagues at Manchester United during his time at Old Trafford, and one of those players spoke about a particular incident.
Former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi opened a story from Roy Keene’s autobiography to reveal that he is the mysterious player the Irishman told. As Keene said, Rossi glved United’s captain before avoiding a narrow slap.
Rossi was 18 when Keene left United, so he would have been in his teens when the incident happened. And Italian International, who retired in 2023, opened to the incident.
“Keane wrote that he wrote at once in training where he spoke to a young Italian player to not give him the ball. “If the child had said anything, he would have slapped him, but he was silent and his gaze spoke volumes, so he walked to wave.
“Well, that kid was me. And I don’t remember that at all!
Rossi left Old Trafford and built a nomadic career after playing for Italy, Spain and the United States. The American-born star, who won 30 caps in Italy, also reflected on his work for Sir Alex Ferguson in British football.

“He was a tough guy, but he was also a paternal figure who knew how to treat young players like gems. “He protected and motivated them to help them grow, both as people and players, with precise values and rules.
“In training, it was something like this brutal pace and strength, something I was used to, I had no friends in training. Lots of shaking, kicking, attacking. I quickly realized I had to do it to gain respect in that squad.
Rossi was not the only United rookie to violate Keene towards the end of captain’s time in Manchester. Gabriel Heinze claimed he joined Rossi in the same summer in 2004, sparking Keene early in the spell with the club.
“The first thing you hear in English or another language is bad,” said Heinze, who recently joined Arsenal’s coaching staff, in 2022. “He (Keane) looked at me and said, “f *** off!”
“I stood up and a man came to me. Now, I was a child, so I repeated it to him, I said, “f *** off You! Then I remember nothing else…”
