Manchester United striker Rasmus Hojlund claims he is not interested in the pursuit of club Benjamin Sesco, and believes that the new central central signature will “sharp” him

Rasmus Hojlund says he is not aware that Manchester United is looking for a new striker and supports himself to prove his worth. United have signed RB Leipzig’s £70 million rating of Benjamin Sesco, replacing Hosilund with Reuben Amorim’s first choice striker, and is also targeting Aston Villa’s Olly Watkins.

But Hozilund, who signed from Atalanta two years ago for £72 million, said he welcomed the new competition, claiming he was “sharp” rather than deflated. Asked if he received assurances from the club about his position, Hojlund said:

“I think the most important thing for me is to keep working hard, stay focused and clearly see what happens. My plan is very clear, and it’s about staying for my spot and keeping what happens.

“I’m still very young. I think people sometimes forget that. I’m 22. Obviously not all strikers score 100 goals at age 22. But I’ve learned a lot. I think you can see in my game.

“I’m starting to develop the basics and get better, and now I’m pretty much doing really well in the preseason, to me, to hone myself.

United struggled with their worst Premier League campaign last season, finishing 15th, with Hodglund managing only 10 goals in all competitions.

Danish International, which won the opener in United’s 4-1 victory over Bournemouth on the Chicago Soldiers Field, has continued to win the US preseason tour and admitted that they have not reached their expectations last season.

“I think it was a bit rough after last season. I tried to sharpen myself during the holidays and it felt really good,” Hodzilund said. “Obviously, it was a tough season for all of us. I think I should have done better. I think everyone knows.

“But I think it’s also about the team. We’re going to be better now. I think it shows that we’re making the right progress in these two games.

“He had a lot of injuries so obviously he had to take a lot of game time. That’s part of it – you’re not going to say I shouldn’t play because I want to play all the games.

“But, although I could have done it with some help, especially at first, in terms of sharing a little bit of the game, I feel like I’m matured a lot and ready for what’s coming.”

Hojlund revealed the close bond he developed alongside United and Danish teammate Patrick Dorg.

“We have a very good relationship,” Hodzilund said. “We only have a year between us. We have a lot of general friends. We are from the same kind of areas of Denmark, and we are really beginning to bond.

“I also had a very good bond with Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof, but there was a bit of an age gap. It turned out to be like Big Brother and my brother, but I and Patrick look a little equal in terms of age.”
