Louis Diaz completed a £65.5 million move from Liverpool to Bayern Munich on Wednesday, but the Colombian has already suffered an unexpected hit in his first week in Germany
Louis Diaz faces potential language problems at Bayern Munich following a £65.5 million transfer from Liverpool this week. This is because one of Diaz’s only Spanish-speaking teammates is about to leave the club.
Liverpool had his first hesitation in scoring 17 goals in all competitions for Arne Slot’s Premier League champions, but Diaz decided to quit after disagreeing with terms surrounding his new contract. Bayern’s second offer of over £65 million was considered too good to reject for the 28-year-old.
Diaz, who had significant difficulty speaking English during his time in Liverpool, now faces another language barrier, as most of his new colleagues speak German and English.

That’s one of the few people he can communicate in Spanish, so Portuguese midfielder Joao Parghína intervenes as a makeshift translator during Bayern training session on Thursday. Build reported that Diaz spent most of the day with Parshinya, who has played an invaluable role in helping the Colombian star settle.
But before they formed a real friendship, Diaz was hit hard as the 30-year-old midfielder was ready to set off for Tottenham Hotspur. Palhinha joined Bayern from Fulham for a fee of up to 47.4 beans a year ago, but is currently planning to return to the Premier League.
It was revealed on Friday that Tottenham had agreed to a move on Bayern and Parchinah’s loans. Initially, the only expected to be a straight loan has given you more flexibility to spend your money elsewhere this summer, but Bayern inserted a purchase option in its talk on Thursday.
Despite his set-up, Diaz is desperate to make an immediate impact on Bayern, who signed his former Reds teammate Sadio Manet in the summer of 2022.
“I’ll give it everything for the team I’m playing,” Diaz said after his transfer. “I don’t know if the transfer fee is worth it, but I’m happy to have concluded this way.
“I like this club and want to settle here as soon as possible. I can play on the wings ahead of time. The coach told me he’s looking at me on the left side, but I play where I need it. I want to help the team, that’s the priority.
“The purpose of the club is my purpose and I wanted to join Bayern because I wanted to move on to a big team. The club has an incredible history.
“We want to win everything, and my goal is to help the club and succeed as quickly as possible.
“This is what I’m making my dream come true. It’s about getting used to the club as quickly as possible and helping the team.”
