Newcastle has rejected an offer from Liverpool for star striker Alexander Isaac, but it seems unlikely that the 25-year-old deal will reach this summer

Liverpool is about to leave Alexander Isaac after Newcastle rejected an offer worth £120 million, including a striker add-on. ISAK hopes to leave Newcastle this summer and is not taking part in the preseason tour of the Korean club.

Newcastle doesn’t want to lose Swedish International, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season. Also, there is no other senior striker after Callum Wilson retired after the end of his contract.

Also, according to a new report from BBC Sport, Liverpool does not believe the ISAK deal is “attainable” for £150 million for the 25-year-old. That could mean their ambitious plans will be shelved unless his current club is willing to compromise.

Magpies are said to be stuck with their claim that Isak will not be sold under ratings – and even if it is fulfilled, they will not sanction the deal unless a replacement is officially secured.

Liverpool has already spent more than £250 million this summer, including Florian Wiltz, Hugo Echicchique, Milos Kerkez and Jeremy Fripon.

“He’s still our player. He’s signed us,” Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, when asked about Isaac’s future earlier this week.

“I want to believe that all possibilities are still available. My wish is that he will stay, but that is not in my complete control.

Isak has three years left on the contract, and Howe added that he has not yet spoken with the club chief about the situation. “No, I’m not. I’ve been working on training this afternoon today, mainly due to the fact that I’ve been traveling,” he said.

“On these trips, they are always very intense, and of course I am in touch with people who need to contact me to get back home, but when you are away, it is very minimal contact.

“It’s an important time for us. There’s a lot to incorporate. We need to bring in the right type of player. We never have to act out of character, we have to work on how we have in the window all the time.

“It’s a strategic way. If the right players are not available at the right price, you can’t trade. Everything has to be in line.

“We want to add depth and quality to the areas we have identified. Your fingers can cross and get the deal done.”
