Premier League champions Liverpool announced their kits on Friday for the 2025/26 season.
Florian Wirtz claims he has already filmed Liverpool’s iconic No. 7 shirt, and has already shot his favorite No. 10. The German midfielder was signed by Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer at a rate that could reach £116 million.
Even before he arrived at Anfield, when he reached Merseyside there was already drama above his team number. It was suggested that Wirtz was keen to wear the No. 10 shirt. problem? That number is now occupied by Argentine midfielder Alexis Mac Alistair.
Annoyed, Wirtz took him to social media to expose those claims. Writing on his Instagram story, the German star wrote:
Wirtz doesn’t wear the same number he wore at Leverkusen, but the 22-year-old landed another iconic number following the announcement of a new home kit from Adidas in Liverpool. He wore No. 7 all season, and his shirt remained free after Louis Diaz moved to German giant Bayern Munich.
Ironically, Wirtz actually played a major role in switching the winger to Bundesliga. Speaking at his Bayern announcement, Diaz said:

“Florian told me that the Bundesliga is high intensity comparable to the Premier League. The stadium is always full. Florian wanted a lot of luck from me.”
Away from Diaz, Wirtz follows the name of the iconic Liverpool player host to wear a shirt. Steve McManaman, Peter Beardsley, Louis Suarez and Harry Kewell are among the former Reds stars who claimed that number during their Anfield career.
Liverpool fans then took him to social media and welcomed the decision to give Wirtz the number seven. One fan said: “The Wirtz 7 looks just right,” another added:

Other supporters are hoping for big things from Wirtz, which has numbers on his back. Another fan said: “Flo Wirtz takes on the iconic Liverpool No. 7 shirt, once continued by Keegan, Dalglish, Beardsley, McManaman, Kewell, Smicer, Suarez, Milner, Diaz .. The Legacy.”
The final supporter said, “Wirtz gave us the iconic number 7, bringing us to glory and winning the seventh UCL.”
Wirtz certainly hopes to enjoy a positive start to life with his new team number. After being friendly with Spanish flank athletic Bilbao, he has the opportunity to secure his debut trophy in a community shield clash with Crystal Palace. Liverpool will advance their Premier League season against Bournemouth.
