This may be the case for either or the other of Arne Slot this summer. Despite already spending more than £200 million on new signings in this window, the Netherlands continues to pursue a big-budget target as they prepare for their Premier League title defense.
The Reds have already sealed a record-breaking signature with Bayer Leverkusen forward Florian Wiltz, reaching a deal worth £116 million. Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez and Jeremie Frimpong will also be taking part, with Slot’s new exterior team making Crystal Palace a face with Community Shield. But their biggest forwarding statement may not have come yet.
Liverpool is deeply connected to the movements of Eagles defender Mark Guech. However, since that speculation, they have been rejected for Newcastle striker Alexander Isaac, in addition to a £110 million bid.
Their rivals are said to be reaching out for a massive £150 million fee. Fans from both clubs are waiting to see if Merseyside Club responds with an increase in offers.
But meeting Isaac’s reputation would almost certainly end Liverpool’s Guech pursuit. The palace reportedly sought a £50 million fee for the 25-year-old, and it reduced its rating in light of the contract expires in 12 months.
Despite the player’s sales prospects, it is rare for FSG to fund both Guehi and Isak’s deals. Newcastle was also linked to England’s centre-back, so he still managed to make use of this.
Ironically, selling Isaac to Liverpool may be the key to funding the move. The Swedish striker reported for preseason training on Monday, following his stay at home for his pre-season Asian tour.
In the meantime, the 25-year-old is permitted to stay healthy by former club Real Sociedad. The Reds will be required to complete the transaction until 7pm on September 1st when the transfer window expires.
