Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy has expressed his belief that the investigation into Manchester City’s alleged financial infringement was elicited as “too long.” In February 2023, the Premier League accused the city of violating 115 financial fair play rules over nine years from 2009 to 2017. More than two years later, the verdict has not yet been made.
Recently, it was revealed that it could be October before we hear the results. Their Premier League competitors have been kept pretty quiet since the fees were announced, but Levy has joined a short list of senior figures to publicly discuss the city’s case. Since they were indicted, Pep Guardiola’s team has denied fraud and claimed they have “comprehensive, uncontested evidence” to support their position.
In an interview with Gary Neville for Overlap, the Spurs chief shared his opinion. “I think it’s really unfair to talk about another club in the Premier League. What I say is that you’re going through a process that I think is going on too long,” Levy said.
“We need to come to some form of conclusion for the benefit of the game. Unfortunately, it’s a shame that we couldn’t solve things internally, not by the request of a lawyer who’s making a lot of money from now on.”
The debate between the city and the Premier League has been underway behind the scenes for 30 months. At the beginning of February this year, Pep Guardiola had anticipated an announcement in the coming weeks, but never came to fruition.
Last September, the mayor insisted: “I’m sorry to say I always want to protect my club – especially in modern times.
“We’re going to say we’ve had more good days than our opponents. That’s why we win a lot. That’s not complicated.”
Star Forward Erling Haaland “believes” that the city, which signed a new nine-and-a-half year contract last season, will be proven. “I talked to the boss and I believe in them in the end,” Haaland revealed to Time Magazine.
“It’s a very difficult situation to sit there and even talk because I wasn’t really involved in it, so I think the club knows what they’re doing.
