Manchester United players are trying out innovative silver jackets designed to cool them down during training at high temperatures.
United’s training base for the US tour is Chicago. Here, temperatures reached the mid-90s amid the heat waves that have seen the hottest day of the year in cities.
To help players compete with HEAT, United’s performance team is co-voting with kit sponsor Adidas on a trial to explore cooling strategies.
The silver jacket keeps the cold inside, ensuring players are cooled faster and are already trialled in Cycling and Formula One.
It is expected to be widely used at next year’s World Cup. The team will play in severe heat across the United States during this World Cup.

United players will wear them at halftime during their opening tour game with West Ham at MetLife Stadium, New Jersey on Saturday after warm-up.
The trial with the jacket is part of United’s ongoing innovation strategy to constantly maximize performance.
Meanwhile, United jumped out for a pre-season US tour without Harry Maguire, but the defender joined the team after staying to deal with personal issues.
The 32-year-old was introduced at halftime in a friendly 0-0 draw with Leeds last Saturday, but was substituted in the 74th minute and stood out in the absence of a 32-man tour team on Tuesday.
It is understood that Maguire remains at home due to personal issues, but he is now with a man from Reuben Amorim.
