Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn has hit the Premier League spending rules.
John McGinn has criticised Premier League spending rules, claiming it is blocking Aston Villa and giving the “Big Six” an unfair advantage.
This summer, the club’s owner, VSport, was unable to splash out to strengthen Unai Emery’s team to secure another Champions League finish. The villa has two routes to UEFA’s Elite Club Competition next season. He qualified after finishing his final term through the league position and the Europa League.
The Villa brought two players this summer. One of them may be loaned out. Zepiqueno Redmond took part in a free transfer earlier last month. Goalkeeper Marco Bizotto was the only other addition to come from Stade Brest to replace Robin Olsen.
As a result of being in Europe, Villas will have to comply with UEFA team cost rules this summer. This limits the club’s wage spending on income.

Villa narrowly missed his return to the Champions League on the final day of last season after a 2-0 loss to Manchester United, but the result was contaminated by an error from umpire Thomas Bramal.
He blew his whis when Morgan Rodgers scored the ball from Altai Bay Indeal before he placed it behind the net. That is, Val couldn’t overturn the decision.
At that point in the match, Villa was already in the top five as Newcastle had lost to Everton, so even a draw would have been enough to cross the line.
“There is a jealous shade watching the Champions League this year, but our goal is to go as much as we can in the Europa League and we aim to return to the Champions League.
“We’ve seen the impact now. I don’t know any details about it, but if you want to compete with a big boy, you don’t need to be smart to understand that there are almost unfair rules when you ask me.
“There are owners who want to invest in teams and spend on kicking the club, but they’re not allowed to do that. It’s hard to see. The rules are similar in many clubs.”
Despite dislikes the rules, McGinn feels he can unite the villa this season. “I think being (at a disadvantage) brings together everyone, managers and players,” he said.
“For all the supporters, it’s the same thing they want new toys. When you don’t get them in the summer, you’re like, ‘Oh, where are they?’
“We just signed Booba (Kamara) with a new long-term contract and he is one of Europe’s best midfielders. We’ve embraced a big player. It’s not all fate and darkness. We enter a new season and it’s a special season.
“Since the manager came in, we’ve achieved things we’ve never done before. He’s just as motivated as we are.”
