Manchester United may be able to get Benjamin Sesco this summer as RB Leipzig reportedly rejected a £700 million offer from Newcastle. The Red Devils and Magpies are both chasing the Striker. The striker scored 27 Bundesliga goals during his two seasons in Germany.
Sesko moved from RB Salzburg to Leipzig in the summer of 2023, then crafting his reputation as one of Europe’s most talented young strikers. He has many admirers in the Premier League and previously attracted interest from Arsenal before the Gunners chose to sign Viktor Gyoker. And Sesco is said to have now been impressed with Manchester United after being noticed by Reuben Amorim’s long-term plan.
Newcastle appeared to jump to United as a front runner to land Sesco.
According to Athletic, Leipzig has asked clubs interested to cut their first £65.5 million extra add-ons and sell-on clauses to sanction Sesco’s exit.
However, Newcastle has only presented a bid of over £65.5 million plus an additional bid of over £4 million. And the German club believes the offer is insufficient.
The report also claims that Manchester United continues to pursue Slovenian International but has yet to bid for the Ace.
Sesco was removed from the Leipzig team on Saturday, and his team was defeated 2-1 by pre-season friendly Serie A Club Atalanta.
Following that match, Sportsmarcel Schaefer Managing Director RB Leipzig spoke to Sesco’s absence when asked for comment.
“We won’t go into detail about that, but when some clubs say they’ve shown strong interest and approached it, it’s clear what happened,” he explained.
Earlier in that day on Saturday, Slovenia’s report suggested that Sesco was certain he would join Newcastle in place of Manchester United this summer.
However, Magpie boss Eddie Howe couldn’t shed any light on transfer development when asked about Sesco in the Far East where Newcastle is currently enjoying his preseason tour.
“Sorry to sound like a broken record, I know what’s going on, but I’m not dealing with it,” Howe said. “We see the best players we can get. We just look at the best things we can get. I see all the situations open and available. I feel that is the only way we are trying to get where we want to go.
